Thoughts on this game? Seems like GW has had plenty of time to prepare for this one but I still think Galax gets the win if they play like they're capable of and don't kill themselves with mistakes.

With Giles improving, one of these two need to separate themselves from the others In region C. Galax should win fairly easily based on the talk on the other board. From many miles away I think Galax needs to be dominant in this one to set the tone as we get closer to the playoffs. A poor to ok performance only emboldens the Giles, Chilhowie, and Holston’s of SWVA. If it’s within three scores then it’s an open race to represent the C/D side in the championship in December. Just my opinion and I could be way out in left field.

I'll never pick against GW but I'll just say this I'll probably be at home with my feet up by halftime. Our O should be much improved with the starting QB back not that his brother did anything other than a great job but he is our best WR so. For me the line play is what decides this game and Galax should have a huge edge. GW will score I think or hope at least but it won't be enough Galax by I'm guessing 5+ tds. But I'm still taking GW-28 Galax-27

Three scores is quite a bit considering GW still has plenty of talent with tons of time to prepare for Galax. Galax, Giles, PM, Holston and Chilhowie are all playing well right now so it's hard to say who will come out on top in region C/D.

If it's closer than 3 scores the time off has been used well but that time off could really hurt too. Galax has played a killers row so they are prepared we haven't it kills me to say but we are not GW from 5-6 years ago currently.

All I am saying is that with all the talk constantly about how talented but horribly coached GW is, if it’s not 3 scores, plan on Giles representing Region C. Young team that is improving at a rapid pace so re-establish your dominance or the Dixon era may truly be over. And I say that with all reverence as I think all three of those teams are decent but Galax should be housing everyone in class 1 south of Roanoke again this year.

I see what your saying and Galax has pretty well done what they were supposed to have done so far this year, people forget the whole team was quarantined going into the Glenvar game and has been down several starters for other weeks so all in all I'm happy with the progress they've made but I still see plenty of room for improvement. Galax handled Giles pretty good with them being down several starters and I'm sure Giles is better at full strength and they're improving so time will tell if they improved enough to take over region C. A lot of people counted Galax out as soon as Dixon left and they made it back last year so I'm hoping they can prove a lot of people wrong again this year.

No doubt the pipeline isn’t empty there. My only point is while you have someone down, you stand on them so they have no doubt that you will destroy them if/when you meet again. And the honest assessment of the GW/Galax “rivalry” is that you are so far in their head right now, you only need to be mildly successful before the avalanche of doubt covers them up. Again as an outsider I can’t begin to tell you whether their coaches are worth a dime but if their kids are talented, you would think by pure accident they would be close in a game or two. Should be a good one to watch.

We've been close twice since harner took over. And one win I'm that time by 1 point. I wish Galax and GW played pre 2013 on a consistent basis. Especially 2000-2009 GW used to be a different beast. It was smash mouth run it down your throat football all day and very very few could do anything about it. GW vs RH would've been fun to watch back then.

I'm not sure I follow the logic here. As far as reestablishing the dominance I don't think it has been lost. Besides a vastly depleted galax team from Injures that lost to chilhowie last minute of semi final game. And the following year losing to a once In a generation chilhowie team Galax has been the one in the west the rest of us has been chasing.

I watched the galax Giles game and everyone talking about Giles coming around that seems the case but they are going to have to be 5 or 6 touchdowns better than they was from the first game. I get they was down some starters but Galax was without their main TB as well.

GW does have the talent to be a factor every year, but most 1A schools don't have 75 players to dress and pull from.

The logic is that IF Giles does what I personally think they are capable of (admittedly from a distance), they won’t need to be 5 TD’s better. I look for a much closer game with a chance for the Spartans to pull an upset. All due respect but on film this does not look like a typical Galax team. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them in Salem but it won’t as easy as in years past

You're right there, Triple Opt. I'm a Giles guy. Yeah we had a few starters out and are looking a little better with them back, and more notable is the little extra depth being fairly healthy. But, no way we've cut into that 4 score loss. Galax dominated the line, both sides of the ball. Giles was a little lucky to beat GW. We broke two long runs for our TD's. We could not drive the field and score on them. Don't know if we could beat GW again. Galax is, no doubt the dominant team out of region C/D this year

May not be a typical Galax team but I'm pretty sure we heard the same thing last year, not saying they will be in Salem this year but so far they have done what they were supposed to do by beating the teams they are supposed to beat. That all could change tonight if they don't show up play like they're capable of. I still believe we are better than some think but I could be very wrong.

The talk last year was about line play since so many had graduated the prior year. The QB was a stud so that negated some of that with his feet and pocket awareness. This year just seems a little out of sync many times to me. Certainly correctable but other teams are gaining as well. Giles will be a handful late this year and most definitely next year. I would keep an eye out for a sneaky PM team to compete as well. Not likely to win it all but should give a good showing against the top 2-3 in the region.

Good thing about this year is the line is as good or better than last year and the drop-off at QB is not near what most expected, Ashworth had some big shoes to fill and has done a great job so far. Tucker pounding the ball has been a pleasant surprise to a lot of people. Galax still needs to improve in all aspects of the game and I'm hoping they do as the season wears on. Losing Pickett, Barnes and Beaman was a huge deal but some other kids have done a good job stepping up but they still need to work hard and get better every week. A lot of football to be played before anyone can get to Salem. Regardless unless something changes everyone is playing for second place behind your team but dang I hope im wrong about that...lol

People "in the know" here have been claiming we are running that coach off every year for the last five years. A broken clock is right twice a day, so eventually, they'll be right. I'm not a fan of him either, but it's been no where near as bad as many have laid it out to be. But I don't fish teenagers for info, so what do I know?

I know you read another forum, and you know I've said early this season we'd be fortunate to end up .500 due to a beefed up schedule and a genuinely young roster. Not coaching. Execution, inconsistency, and penalties have been issues at times, and that's to be expected. I'm excited for our young playmakers all the same. To me, this isn't a game to establish the pecking order of the west. I'm more interested in seeing how much our young players have grown since week 1 in Radford. I'm excited to see our Junior twins Ben and Luke Jollay on the field at the same time since they were freshmen. And after a month without GW football, I'm just excited to see football played at Pendleton Field. I care about us. Not the west. The chips will fall how they may.

I will agree with you on one thing....Giles is coming. I have nothing but respect for that program and their fans been nothing but fantastic to me personally for decades. I'm so damn happy to see them rising back from the ashes. Those football crazy fans over in Pearisburg absolutely deserve it, and I'll always root for them as long as they aren't playing my Maroons.

75? Our numbers now are ALOT closer to 30 we haven't had a 60+ team since 2013 I think. I may be wrong I'll go look but it's been a while and the numbers go down each season.

Yes I do get info from teenager's but it's the ones playing on Fridays. I also get it from parents of kids and also some of the coaching staff lol. His ship has a pretty big leak in it from some he considers solid. And the main reason he stuck around in most years was the AD he's gone now so he does not have much longer. Sure I could be wrong and this is just the start of a 30+ years career but I'd say it's closer to 2 more years if he's lucky. I've said it before and I'll say it again I like the guy as a person he's a good dude off the field but he has zero business being a head coach. That's my opinion and mine alone however anyone else feels is their own.

Galax done what they were supposed to do last night by winning by 5 scores but surprisingly Giles struggled against Grayson. No one is talking about Grayson being in the mix but if Giles is back where people say they're then Grayson is definitely better than people thought and could make some noise come playoff time.

Impressed with Grayson's defense. Not big up front, but very quick and swarm to the ball. Giles could not drive on them. Giles 3 scores was a pick 6, a blocked punt recovered at the 10 and taken in in one play, and a recovered on sides kick that, resulted a long about 45 yd. TD pass. Giles offensive line really needs to improve. They could not drive down field again Galax, GW, or Grayson. Pushed Fort Chiswell and Narrows around, but their records speak for themselves

How bout giving Chilhowie some credit? They were a very, very good team and had a couple breaks went their way they could have upset Riverheads.

I think he was giving them some credit by saying a once in a generation team, Galax did have some key injuries the first go around against them but the second time around they just were flat out the better team in my opinion.

I bet after I post this he will start talking how great he is/was.
Haha you keep thinking I never got to play dumb ass I was a starter every season I played at GW. 2 years on JV and 2 years on varsity but I guess you know everything right? And if I'm a videogame warrior come see me in person every home game standing on the hill left side of the press box. I can promise you that you absolutely will not have that same energy in person. Have a great day you touched idiot.

You're correct I didn't cause I was on the field playing haha. How the hell do you claim to be a GW fan? If you're such a fan you should know who did and who didn't play right? And yet again 2 complete morons talking sh!t about something they can't back up. But you know who can? Good ole Blaster like always game films are available of me on the field starting every week for GW. Hmmm that's weird that those are available when I didn't play isn't it. And all anyone on this board needs to do if they have a problem with me is walk to the left side of the press box at GW I'm on that hill every single week we're at home come see me.

what year?

I wasn't slighting CH but they got beat by a total combined score of 77-14 in those two games. It would of took a hell alot more then a couple breaks.
One game was a rout. The other game was not. It was 35-7 but Chilhowie had three INT in second half. They trailed 14-0 for most of game

Blaster and I disagree on a lot of things, but I've always respected his passion for the program. This quote is not correct. Pretty certain he was a starter on the 2005 team who lost to Giles in the Region C championship game when we had Davis at QB. Not certain on whether that was his senior year or junior year, however. I'm drawing a blank there.

I was a starter but not for that team I was the 1st back up at my positions as I was a starter on JV that season. I got a solid amount of play time in that team but started every game for a dominant JV team that didn't lose from 92-08 or 09.

My mistake. I stand corrected. I knew that was right about your time. I was thinking 05 and guessing 06. 06-07 then. My bad. Carry on lol
