The Fighting Blues will travel down to "The River" Friday night for an as always knockdown, run and gun, slobber knocker shootout with the Knights... My thoughts are pretty simple and straight forward.
Even minus the six starters we're still missing, "IF" the Blues can control the line of scrimmage and move the ball behind their BIG tackle,#67 as they have been able to do (he will play the left or right side) the past two games they will be fine.. Also, the PM backs MUST HOLD ONTO THE FOOTBALL and FOLLOW YOUR BLOCKERS, THEY ARE THERE TO HELP YOU!!! The Blues CANNOT run #5 all night every Friday night.. There a a couple of kids on this team that are capable of helping him out, they just have to want to do it....
Offensively, control the ball, control the game...End of story!! The Coaching staff has done a tremendous job filling in kids when/where they're needed and they've had to tweak the offense a little to be productive but it is working. Nothing drastic, just a little simpler.. They know the kids are capable and IMO have done well getting them where they need to be to be successful..
Defensively it's simple, the Blues have got to get more pressure up the middle and more plays from their linebackers.. The ends are doing a great job with containment and the middle and LB's are stopping the run but we're giving up too many yards and too many "Big Plays" .. I believe that fatigue is the biggest part of the problem on defense for the Blues but, with the "Big Guys" playing both ways and on most on special teams it's just very hard to get them a breather... The "D" backs are doing a much better job in coverage and should get better and better each game.. The corners and safety's are young and not real big but they are aggressive and very physical. The"D" backs will have to step it up against the Knights because we all know they are going to throw the football, and I think they will...
Another big factor IMO, PM hasn't had any "Big Plays" on special teams... NONE!!! And to win close games the Blues are going to need some down the road so they may as well start this weekend.. Onside kicks, punt coverage, kick coverage or a kick return, just something to give them a spark.. I believe they will get it figured out and it will be a factor for the Blues in a good way.. SOON!!!
Bottom line, the Blues have to get some key players healthy and keep 'em healthy.. They are missing some vital parts to the O and D at the moment but hopefully they will be back soon..
I'll have an update on this thread as to the Blues progress after the game. Hopefully something positive to report.. Last weeks game proved what the Blues are capable of. No doubt, that was a "Gut Check" game and they "checked in". They stood up, they fought, and they never quit...These kids are close, they can smell it, they can taste it. It's just a matter of time and the time is NOW!!!
Best of luck to the Blues this Friday. Stay healthy, Stay hungry and as always, GO BLUES!!!!
