What do you think of the Highland Springs versus Potomac, Maryland game? I think it’s week 6 or 7. Potomac replaced Martinsburg on HSHS’s schedule.

Terrible game. HS by 45+. Clearly a scramble game but this is no different from HSHS playing a middle of the road C3 team in Virginia. HSHS must have been left in the lurch by Mburg, no way they'd willingly schedule that game.

He(The AD)actually did a East Coast search for a team to play after Martinsburg canceled late. Potomac was a pretty good team last year but from what I’m hearing they’re definitely not on the level of Highland Springs

The Maury/Wise game is a good one. Wise is consistently a top Maryland school. I also like Stone Bridge traveling to Good Counsel. MaxPreps just ranked GC #22 in their national preseason rankings.

I see the following teams have only 9 games in their schedule. Unity Reed (Mannasas), Norview, and Liberty Christian (Lynchburg) So their are options.

None had that date open. All had closed schedules and weren’t an option. Once again…it was an extremely late cancellation and the AD was hunting vigorously but only Potomac,MD replied. Playing a private school was never an option.

LCA is a private school, but they are also in the VHSL. Just wanted to clarify, not disputing the scheduling issue. Good teams have trouble finding opponents, especially late in the season, when everyone is already set. Not too many teams wanting to take a guaranteed L.

Potomac has a winning record pretty much every year and has had some good playoff runs. Their enrollment would be Class 4 in VHSL. HS should handle them comfortably but it's a respectable opponent on short notice.

Looking forward to seeing Stone Bridge and South County against Quince Orchard. Love seeing all the VA/MD matchups this year.

All of those games are great matchups. For me personally, I'm looking forward to a Benefit Game with Phoebus vs Maury on 8/17. Yes, I know it's just a Benefit Game but there's going to be some serious talent and athletes out on that field.

Thanks Bo yea the Eagles will be tested early with Heritage Huguenot Dinwiddie Glass Amherst and Stanton River should know where they stand prior to Peidmont District

So does the Piedmont go back to the usual pecking order, or does Martinsville, Bassett, Magna Vista, put up another fight? It was interesting last year to see the top 4 duke it out a little bit.

Mike, I believe Magna Vista and GW will be the two teams that duke it out. MV has some impressive looking guys (MLB Dahmir Allen, reigning Piedmont Player of the Year Ethan Stockton, and the two very very special sophomores Ethan Dukes and Simeon Moore) and they will have some very good team speed. I just see GW having too many weapons at the skill positions. They were extremely young on the offensive and defensive lines last year but playing Dinwiddie and that huge Glass line gave them a welcome to varsity moment early. Very rarely does a 3-6 team come back and be a factor the next year in the playoffs, but I see GW being a candidate to play your Spartans for the Regional Championship. I like MV to potentially get back to the 3D championship.

Bassett has a great coach so they’ll be competitive and Martinsville got Coach Fielder who was integral in MV’s two state championships. The Piedmont was a laughing stock in football but definitely is slowly but surely earning some respect back.

They were 11-1 last yr and beat Myers Park
Weak schedule. Myers Park was hit with ineligible players the season prior and cleaned house. Wasn’t the same MP program they were the past 3-4 years. If I’m not mistaken, MP only won 3 games. Both Olympic and Ardrey Kell were called out for having very good records but playing nobody.

Myers Park was 3-7. Olympic's 3 best wins were over Ardrey Kell (8-3, beat them by 12), TC Roberson (6-5, beat them by 7), and South Mecklenburg (5-5, beat them by 6). The rest of their regular season schedule was not above .500 and the only team with a pulse that they played, Independence, rolled them by 49 points.

They do not appear to be a good team, no different than a few teams I can name in VA who coast to 8-10 regular season wins and fold like a beach chair in the playoffs.

Not a good team at all. Day and night program from a Chambers, Weddington, Charlotte Catholic, Hough. Those are your Charlotte upper echelons, Olympic is maybe a 5th tier team in regards to the 4A classification in NC. I would equate them to Cave Spring or Jefferson Forest if we had to look at a Virginia comparison.

They play better competition then LB and they are in a higher class.

Hey fellas. I tend to be very humble about my Generals, but I just got a report from a non Dinwiddie source on the Ferrum team camp. It appears things aren't as bleak as some have suggested. The Dinwiddie defense reportedly held their own and the offense was "a nightmare to stop". According to the unamed source Harry Dalton is "nasty". I said last year I thought we were a season away and the young men proved me wrong. Toughest OOD schedule Dinwiddie has ever faced. There isn't any ducks. Heck with continued hard work and improvement, come playoff time, a young Dinwiddie may be able to hang with the favorites Phoebus, Varina, King George, Woodgrove, and Salem. @Chuck Vipperman (GW) @BoKnowsSports and @Mic Honcho hope to see you guys in August.

Just FWIW, Olympic since 2007 (last year Cal Preps has on them and they're missing 2009 so idk do that research if you want):

4-7, 9-4, 6-6, 9-3, 8-5, 7-5, 5-7, 5-7, 5-7, 3-8, 3-8, 8-4, 6-2, 5-4, 11-1.

What this tends to tell me is they play in a fairly weak district/division wherein they're typically the 2nd or 3rd best team. They've got some OOD opponents who squash them regularly, lose to the 1-2 better district opponents but pretty regularly handle the rest of their schedule, thereby walking into the playoffs at 4-7 wins where they are usually better than their first round opponent and, with the exception of one year, lose their second game and that's it.

I'd say they're your typical slightly above-average program. Nothing more, nothing less.

Olympic is not a laughing stock. They are well coached and went to the playoffs lastyear.
All due respect. If you come down here to CLT and say that, you may get laughed out of the city. There’s > than 50 teams in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg/Cabarrus/Gaston/Cleveland/Union/Iredell/Rowan area. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who ranks Olympic in the top 35.

They play better competition than LB and they are in a higher class.
Doubt that. They’ll have some athletes and may even beat LB, but they’re a first round and done team in NC. They play in the weakest district in the CLT Metro.

Great report ! I would imagine if the defense is at least an above average "Dinwiddie" defense this will be another special team.

I generally over analyze things and when looking at the losses on defense I remain cautious. However, I have to admit Coach Mills and his staff always seems to come up with above average defenses. 2019, was probably one of the weakest defenses the Generals have put on the field in years, but that team played a very tough ood schedule with talented teams GW, North Stafford, and Ponnax (playoff teams), district foes Hopewell and Thomas Dale. They eventually lost in the Region B final to PH Ashland. The strength of the 2022 team was the linebackers. With 3-4 starting lb's graduating only all state performer and Coastal Carolina commit Se'Von McDowell remains. Rebuilding this unit will be the key to the Generals defensive success. I initially thought rebuilding the defensive backfield would be a major chore; however, the cabinet wasn't as bare as I expected.

Offensively, Harry Dalton, Raphael Tucker, and Zion Wiggins are a very formidable trio. They combined for 66 rushing touchdowns in 2022. Dalton had 4,000 total yards (passing and rushing) with 60 combined tds. Tucker rushed for 1,463 yards with 28 combined touchdowns. Wiggins had 11 combined touchdowns. He also had 3 special teams tds. The line play is the key to this unit and based on early reports the big boys are getting better every day.

What's all this mean. Heck if I know. I just wanted to talk some football.

That scrimmage game with Highland Springs and Dinwiddie should be fun! A lot of star power on the field and last year‘s co-metro player of the year at quarterback for each

I like Dinwiddie. I know you’re gonna get me 😂 HS, Varina and Dinwiddie will all be extremely good this year.

I definitely agree. LB is the definition of what people think Huguenot is. I’ve never been sold on them.
???? I'm personally not a fan of Lord Botetourt but this is way off. Botetourt wins a title if Trey Henderson wasn't stomping a hole in C3 that year (2019) I believe) and they're constantly a region final contender.
