Giles vs. Nottoway

Lol Giles had no pass rush because Glanvar only sent out two receivers. The rest stayed in and blocked. Next year if Glenvar tries same thing, look for Giles to man up and send the house. Giles Defense played BAD

That sounds like a good idea. Against a passing team. the defense should blitz every play. key to defense is get in backfield and make tackles at or behind LOS. If tackles are being made past LOS, yards are being gained.

Sounds good in theory to blitz a passing team every play... does not always work out the way you think it should. A few years back (2009) Western Albemarle had a great passing team, they passed about 80% of the time. Teams would blitz and their QB rarely got sacked and he completed a lot of passes with very few INT's. Plus he did not scramble much. He just was able to get the ball out of his hand quick to his WR. They put up a lot of passing numbers.

Giles' number 1 goal next year will be to get pressure. I don't know who is returning for either team, but I guarantee Giles will get pressure next year. It will most likely make them vulnerable for long passing and running plays, but I would bet a lot of money that will be the game plan.

ghs89er..no feelings hurt..no mad here. agree everything on here is just an opinions...and enjoy reading yours even though they contradict mine.....That's what makes it interesting..to see how my opinions and predictions hold up against everyone elses..sometimes people say things on here that change my mind......hey..I even argue with myself sometimes....and I am wrong most of the time..just ask my wife....so I'll go out with my prediction and eat my words with humble pie on here if I am proven wrong tomorrow.

Glenvar probably won't win in stunning fashion against Nottoway but they will get a solid win...something like 21-7 or 24-14...even in the rain.

Re: WHEN YOU ONLY RUN.....

Back in 09, 10 Giles was doing some different things, trying to utilize their talent. These few years they had more speed then size, outside of Greg Ray. I guess when Williams thought he had what he wanted he stopped practicing it. No kidding , it was kind of of a spread single wing and was effective against Radford that year. As Radford had a great plan for their rushing attack along with some good players. Had Giles not went to that the game wouldn't have been as close. Williams is a great coach, and I bet he's already thinking about this. As PM probably is too. They were in the same situation at Altavista. I don't know if it would've made a difference, but they just kept trying to run, with Altavista stacking the box.

Pass Defense

Man up on the receivers and put pressure on QB. I see too many teams give WRs too much of a cushion at line of scrimmage by playing 10-15 yards off the receiver. Cover him from moment ball is snapped. Blitz, but don't send same guy every time, mix it up to confuse defense.
Put 9 or 10 in the box, rush some, blitz some, have some drop in coverage. Run different defense every play. Don't let offense know where pressure will come from. Too many teams line up in same basic defense every play. Makes it easy for offense to block.

Like I have said many times....To the victor go the spoils....hell if you guys go on to win it all, at least we can say we got beat by the state champs and was the only team to beat the state champs....most folks don't want the team that beat them to go on to victory....I don't care that much....truth is I know that Giles had a championship caliber team that didn't fulfill their potential....it happens...at all levels and in every sport....I wish Glenvar and Richlands luck...go west.....GO GILES

Re: Pass Defense

How many guys do you plan to have on D? There are only 11 players, you put 10 in the box that leave 3 WR's (in a 4 wide spread) open or uncovered if the 11 person is locked on the 4th WR (not many teams line up their WR in the box). I like my chances as an OC and QB. Toss it to the WR that is open and let him catch and run. Then if you take 4 DB and lock them up on 4 WR, then that leaves you 7 guys to put in the box. Are you planning to play with more guys than 11?

How would you have defended the great Gretna teams? Lock 4 guys up and send pressure from the 7 others? That is a great plan, IF you have DB's who can man up and stay with those talented WR's. But in doing that, the DB's have now turned their backs on the QB. A good OC and QB would see that, check to 4 verts, that takes 4 guys out of the play, and now let your QB pick up yards with his legs. 6 guys blocking 6 guys, and now take your best player (QB) vs a LB each play. I like my chances there especially when you guys had a QB like Vic Hall.
