Girls 1A + 2A Outlook, who has what? Who will what?

In our area, Wilson Memorial is looking strong in 2-A and might make another run at Richmond.

Does Surry still have 6'4" young lady in the middle?

Yes. Jones is only a junior and she's listed at 6'5". They also have a point guard who is a freshman who is a D-1 talent. The thing that hurts Surry is that they're other scorer transferred this year and is dropping buckets at Williamsburg Cristian. The team is legit but they are second best in their district/conference. I look for Appomattox Regional Governor's School with the Boyd sisters to do a lot of damage to get to the 1A East championships and possibly the state. ARGS is currently undefeated and has topped several 3A and 4A teams.

At the beginning of the season, the NND girls coaches had selected Lancaster to win the district. I was a little surprised because Colonial Beach, who hasn't lost a district game in the last 2 or 3 years, was still strapped. Northumberland and Colonial Beach look to be the strong favorites out of the NND. Rajaa Shabazz leads Northumberland and Colonial Beach has a potent guard combo with Wilson and Newman.

I've seen Shabazz earlier this year and she plays just like her brother did. Biggest problem with Northumberland is that if Shabazz is shut down, most of the team can't function to pick up the offensive slack. (Hence how Mathews defeated them). Lancaster is young and Colonial Beach is talented as well. From my observations, I would have Colonial Beach first, Northumberland second, and Lancaster third in the NND.

Honestly in the old Region A, ARGS and Surry County are the cream of the crop. They can easily separate from all other teams. The middle batch would be Colonial Beach, Northumberland, Lancaster, and Mathews.

I haven't heard too much noise from the Eastern Shore yet, but I've seen or got a lot of insight on the other teams.

Enjoy the next couple of years with this points system, because it's getting scrapped in 2017 and we will go back from two teams per district per region like the old format.

I haven't seen anything on potential district assignments just region. Will be interesting how they assign the 2 Eastern Shore teams to a district especially if WP, CC, SC, SC move to Mid-East.

You might want to add Middlesex to that list. Not sure they could hang with Surry or ARGS but they are (10-0) and have beaten Lancaster and Mathews.

I saw Middlesex last night (Jan. 8). They are in the middle of the pack as well. Middlesex benefits from having two players that do a lot of dirty work (Wake and Reed) and having a point guard who is feisty (Keeling). Conference 42 will be interesting. I will see West Point girls next week, but I will probably do a little research on Cumberland and Central Lunenburg to see how they are as well.
