AHS girls topple Trojans

The high-flying Lady Falcons overcame a slow start with some mid-game adjustments and took care of John Battle for a key Mountain 7 victory.
Abingdon (18-3, 9-2) trailed 19-14 after one period before turning it around, assuming a 32-28 edge at halftime and a 48-31 advantage by the end of the third.
"The first half we let [the Trojans] go by and we put them on the free throw line,'' Abingdon coach Jimmy Brown said. "In the second half we buckled down and kept them in front of us, played some defense and rebounded.
"When we do these things we can get out and run and we're pretty good.''
Grace Hess paced the winners, who have a huge game Friday at league-leading Wise Central, with 14 points. Mattie Gibson aided the balanced attack with 11.
Battle (7-13, 1-9) got 17 points from Michaela Monk and 11 from Callie Haderer.
