Those two kids along with Grayson Overstreet at Staunton River will give the Roanoke Valley sportswriters plenty to cover in the next couple of years. The area has several other backs that are good as well, however, factors such as age, experience, level of competition, etc., make comparison to these three a little more questionable. Basham and Overstreet at their current paces and barring injury will get in to the upper echelons of all time rushing leaders in the Valley and in the state. Ramsey, purely as a function of waiting his turn in the Salem system, will probably not approach those higher career numbers, barring two seasons the likes of which haven't been seen often anywhere in high school football but, he might be the best of the bunch before all is said and done. Salem has had good running backs over the years but, Ramsey is the first kid, in my opinion, to deserve legitimate comparison to Marcus Parker(prior to his knee injury). Only a couple of weeks in but, there are some interesting storylines to follow and the next two years with this group, if they stay healthy, will undoubtedly lead to some comparisons and walks through the history books of Timesland football. Salem/Byrd tonight and Byrd/Staunton River later in the season are two worth watching. Highfill seems to always have something up his sleeve when it comes to playing Salem but, just my opinion, if I am Salem I load up to stop Larry Basham and make somebody else on Byrd beat me. I don't think a similar strategy would be nearly as effective for Byrd as Salem has other weapons besides Ramsey.
