Grafton won the first game of the Virginiapreps Classic and improved to 9-0 with a 60 to 42 over the Brunswick Bulldogs. Senior Evan Sperling had a great all-around game and posted a double-double scoring 18 point and 16 rebounds while being selected Player of the game. Clevon Greene led Grafton with 22 points and junior Jacob Murillo (6-foot-1) added 13 points.
There is no proof that the Clippers hot shooting tripped the fire alarm that forced everyone to evacuate the Virginia Wesleyan Center before the start of the third quarter. Grafton scored the first 11 points of the game and held Brunswick scoreless until the 3:07 mark of the first quarter. They drained four 3-pointers before halftime and led by 21 at halftime.
Sperling, who has committed to the University of Virginia on a baseball scholarship, was too much for the Bulldogs inside controlling the defensive boards and often limiting Brunswick to only one shot attempt each time down the floor. He finished with three block while altering several other attempts.
