What's everyone's thoughts on this game? If they play like they did Saturday they are in for a long night. If they couldn't stop Fort I definitely don't see them stopping Graham with the talent they have. If the team that played GW shows up they have a chance of making a game of it but if the team that played at RR and Fort shows up they will get smoked. Not trying to take anything away from Fort because they just outplayed Galax but I know Galax is capable of playing a lot better than they did Saturday on both sides of the ball.

I think Graham has all the momentum for sure. This is Galax's opportunity to respond like a champion. I certainly think that is possible. I'll take Maroon Tide in a close one with some BIG defensive plays.

Graham has the talent advantage over Fort bar none. They are a top 5 team in 2A and honestly I believe they have enough talent to make it to Salem. They still have a young coach though and a bunch of kids who have never been in this position. That's exactly why I wouldn't chalk it up as a win for the G-Men just yet. Dixon has had Graham's number over the past few years and making the trip to play Galax won't be easy.

How is Galax's defense look without spurlin? Do they have enough to stop Cousin, Meade, and Cooke from Graham?

Mt Fan, Sure Galax did not play well against Fort Chiswell, and they lost. Galax will
Bounce back against Graham, and play like the defending Champs of A1. But to do
So, they have to contain their RB, Cousins; if they don't they will be in for a long night.
Galax by 7, just my opinion.

One thing that Graham has going for them this year opposed to last is Ben Meade(qb) & Taymon Cooke. Cooke will be the fastest player on the field in every game during the regular season and Meade keeps drives alive with his feet. They also have Cameron Allen (a sophomore) that has at least 5 interceptions on the season, a couple kick return TD's, a couple receiving td's & a couple rushing TD's.

Cousin had a big night against Abingdon (215 yards, 4 TD's) but he had been pretty well held in check the first 4 games. Meade, Cooke, Allen, and a very improved defense had been winning them for them.

- btw this post isn't meant to discredit Galax. Just trying to inform people on Graham that may not follow 2A football as close as 1a.

He was invited to the Blue Grey All American combine in June and they have a 4.5 posted. Not sure how he did at Nike.

OK thanks. I was trying to decide if you were being literal or figurative. HAHA! I would say in regular season you are correct (and through a lot of post season). Literally the fastest player. We don't aways have the speed here in SWVA. A lot of times we have SWVA speed (which isn't the same as being fast in other areas.) So heck yes. I like what I'm hearing

No doubt Galax will have their hands full, like I said before they will have to play alot better than they have been to come out the winner in this one. I just hope the Fort game was a wake up call and they come out ready to play some ball.

That's very true. I've seen 3 Graham games this year and Cooke is one of the more impressive players I've seen in the open field. I don't know if I mentioned it before but he's just a junior.

Here's is some clips of him against richlands. They're by far one of the faster teams in the west.

I think Graham breaks this open early. Then Galax comes back but not fast enough.

Graham 28
Galax 21

Graham 45 Galax 28. Loosing Spurlin really hurt our defense not only with his play but he knew the game and where the ball would be. We have been looking all year for a leader to step up and so far no one has. Our defense only has 2 Seniors our secondary is all sophmores so I look for them to pass on us a lot. We struggle with spread offenses. The only plus we have is that most of our lineman are back from last year but their skill players are just to fast and to good. It could be a long night for Galax.

You don't lose a kid like Spurlin and replace him. He was a rare breed. A true throwback player
Yeah he was, he was truly a joy to watch play. He would not only knock the crap out of you but he was a smart player who was always around the ball and where he was supposed to be. Without him Galax is a different team and somebody needs to step up.

Yes I remember him very well from last year. Lol. But even watching him on film leading up to the game you could tell he was a very smart player and a team leader
