With James River and Ridgeview losing was Gretna able to sneak into playoffs or did Virginia High's win mean elimination ? Also there was another school involved but I can't recall who.

A nice win to end the season, but Nelson was winless and doesn't gain the points the Hawks needed. Virginia high gets the 16 seed and is rewarded with a trip to Appomattox. Dogwood district should get 4 teams in the playoffs. Appo, Dan River, Altavista, and Wm Campbell

Thank goodness Gretna does not make the playoffs!!

I knew we not get many points beating NC. We need to start beating teams with winning records again. Big difference in points beating 8-2 teams vs beating 2-8 teams. Heck our 3 wins came against teams that won a combined 4 or 5 games I think. Not many points there.

So did I read it correctly in the paper today that Gretna JV ended the season as district champs with a 8-1 record? Hopefully that translates to the varsity level at some point.

Maybe it all depends on the next level coach as well

Well of course it depends on the varsity level coach. Duh!!!! I think most everyone realizes that. Have you not seen the post of what Gretna people think about the coach...

What put much faith in that jv record. The jv was older than most of the varsity. You think all those "Sophmores" going move up to take a freshmans spot. That's all I am going say about that. Wouldn't buy into that jv record, man was trying to save his job.

I have asked several times on here what was yalls JV record and no one would reply. I know I have said this over and over. I know yall have a solid athlete that transferred to Gretna this year. He is from Appomattox and it hurt us because our 9th grade class needs a little more talent than what is there. We solid in some areas, but others are lacking and Caleb would have helped us in the skilled position areas. He played QB for yall this year on JV.

You are correct, a young man did transfer to Gretna from Appomattox. However, a source close to the program says that he was moved from QB to wide receiver very early in the season. A sophomore named Damian Canada quarterbacked most of the season. The source said he expects the transfer from Appomattox to help at the wide receiver position in the future.

Thanks for the update, I like that kid. I know he is going to help Gretna in football and basketball.
