Yes sir, we did. We know the Rams well. Believe me, the fact that we don't play them now has nothing to do with anything other than we've not been able to find an opening in our schedules that works.
We have actually tried to play some JV games the last 2 years. We had a game scheduled in 21. Both of us had schools in our leagues that didn't field JV teams. We were able to find a common open date but Covid or weather, can't remember which, forced a postponement and we could never find a suitable makeup date.
NC now starts their regular season one week ahead of us and starts their playoffs a week ahead of us. This has made it much more difficult to schedule non league games. We both play 10 games in 11 weeks. We have 3 dates before Reidsville opens conference play that we could possibly match up. One of their dates is taken because they have to play a county rival. Traditionally, we will always play Glass and Amherst. When you take all that into account we just haven't been able to work it out.
With respect to the above, I will say the same thing about some other traditionally strong NC teams such as Page in Greensboro, Eastern Alamance (Nick Anderson's alma mater) and Western Alamance. Just this week had things not worked out for us to keep Dinwiddie on the schedule, we would likely have entered into an agreement with Northern Guilford. All those teams are less than an hour from us and would provide good competition. It just hasn't worked.
Maybe one day our two state associations will get back on the same calendar and we will be able to work something out. It doesn't make sense to not play. Besides having a chance to win on the field against a good program we both win at the gate.
