GW Danville vs Dinwiddie

Dalton one more time 35-0. 8:25 left in the 2nd quarter. I think the Generals woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

37 yard FG Van-meter 38-0 Dinwiddie. Nice kickoff return by GW to the Dinwiddie 45. 4:26 left in the 2nd quarter.

After holding GW on downs and having a TD negated by a hold, Dinwiddie scores from 50 yards out. 45-0 half time.

Shows you just how good the Dinwiddie’s, Varina’s, and King George’s of the state are. I’m not surprised at the score, remember GW lost 70-6 to Botty and made the Region Championship. Danville boys will be fine.

The Dinwiddie defense held GW Danville to 32 yards in total offense (minus rushing yards) in 37 plays. I don't have the offensive stats for the Generals yet, but I would say it was 300+. GW's defense hit hard and was quick to the ball. Offensively, they dropped at least seven catchable balls. The Eagles can still make noise in Region D. Great atmosphere, hospitality, and stadium. Nonnis was great! Thanks for the recommendation.

I would bet the farm that Dinwiddie would embarrass Salem if they play. That’s a big if, I don’t think Salem will make it that far in the playoffs

@Kilroy25, I will not go down that rabbit hole, but I did watch the entire second half of the Salem and LCA game during our drive home. Salem has the athletes to compete with anybody. In all honesty Salem would struggle with the Varina and Phoebus defenses. Both of those teams front sevens are probably better than LCA's and you have to be able to pass or you will not run the ball on them. The Salem defense has a lot of upside, but Phoebus and King Georges passing games would seriously challenge the Spartans, because of the lack of pressure put on the QB by Salems d line and the talented receivers these two teams have. It's just the first game and Salem lost. So did my Generals and they came to play tonight. I heard this panic before. The Spartans will be fine.

If I had to compare right now I would say:
Phoebus defeats Salem
King George defeats Salem
Salem edges Varina
Salem vs. Dinwiddie I ain't going there. Lol

Can’t bet the house against Salem man. I don’t know if anyone in 4D beats them. They win when it matters and seem to get better when adversity strikes. I don’t know if they beat any of the 4 big dogs in the east but they’ve done it before.

They don’t have it in the trenches this year. Salem will have a winning season, they will likely win out in the regular season, but come playoff time when you meet teams like Dinwiddie, or Phoebus!! Salem will struggle to move the ball consistently

@BoKnowsSports, @Mic Honcho, @Chuck Vipperman (GW), and other GW fans. Don't get down on your Eagles. I checked the stats and as I thought your defense played quite well. GW kept Dinwiddie under 300 yards in total offense. Sure the Eagles missed a few tackles and struggled to stop Dalton, but your defensive backs played press coverage all night and did it well. The Danville linebackers are solid as well. My only critiques would be the Eagles offensive line who although much bigger were seriously outplayed by Dinwiddies smaller and faster front seven. Your receivers also need to concentrate and make clean catches. If GW can establish a running game that compliments their ability to pass they will be just fine. Good luck the rest of the season.

A whole lot of football between now and November/December. Both Salem and LCA are solid teams but, what they both do between now and November and to some extent what their coaches do in that time will determine whether they can be good or great come playoff time. Great athletes that will eventually play and likely have big impacts in college on both sides. Not sure some of the younger and less heralded so far do not have ceilings at least comparable to the more heralded upper class stars. That being said, Gideon Davidson earns the shoutout tonight from me. Offense, defense, special teams in taxing conditions, he is a gamer and Clemson looks to have gotten a good one. Good luck to both teams on the rest of their seasons.

Davidson is the real deal!! I think LCA will be a contender for 3a for sure!! Salems problem isn’t it’s athletes, it it’s inability to change and adapt to the talent that they have. The line is weak on both sides of the ball. Weak line running power!! That math doesn’t add up. Just like last year in the region final against Glass, one of the worst play calling games I’ve seen in Salem. Tonight was no different. Like I said, they’ll be fine in the regular season, but I don’t look for them
To make it past the region championship, same as last year.

My prediction was Dinwiddie by two scores pregame. If we look at what happened around the state last night Dinwiddie seems to be ahead of the pack. I was definitely surprised Salem lost and the way Indian River hung in there with Varina raised my eye brows a bit. King George looked good (from what I hear) bc the stream was down Thursday night so I did not actually see the game. Let's see how Phoebus does in their first game sept 1st against Oscar Smith. Hermitage hung in there with Oscar Smith last night also.

1. Dinwiddie
2. King George
3. Phoebus
4. Varina
5. Salem

Speaking of Varina, If you have nothing better to do check out Freedom Woodbridge on NFHS today who is Varina's next opponent. Next weeks matchup between King George and Hampton looks like an early season showdown. Hampton beat Woodside 30-6 in week one. Henrico will kickoff against Hermitage next week and my Chiefs will take on the Hanover Hawks which could have playoff implications. Another big game is Mechanicsville vs Powhatan in week 2.

LOL, betting against Salem is like betting against Tom Brady for me. EVERY TIME I did not pick a Brady team, I lost.

Is Monacan improved this year? Have they had any success re-establishing a feeder system?

I watched Monacan scrimmage Hopewell two weeks ago, they have some talent but Hopewell pretty much dominated them from my observation.

We moved the ball well against Hopewell but couldn’t really finish off drives. I was surprised we moved the ball as well as we did. Hopewell hit a few home runs and I was impressed with their JR QB. We did not score in our two preseason scrimmages against Hopewell or Matoaca. I thought Matoaca was good and they did beat us 28-0 I think. They had some big strong kids for sure. We looked decent against Midlothian in week one but lost 21-13 in a hard fought game. We might win that one if we played it again. We are improved from last year but we are not a contender for region B in my opinion. As for the rec league there are efforts to rebuild but that is a multi year process. We are probably a 500 ball club. One thing about our team is bc we have so many newbies that don’t play before high school we are usually more improved than other schools by end of season who start with a sturdier base. This game with Hanover is a good test for both teams for a potential 7-8th playoff spot. That is the best we could hope for with this team.

I don't want to overreact to the first week, I still think Salem is probably tops in 4D, but I'm more impressed with what I've read about the Glass defense. I don't think many people will be able to score on them. Someone who knows more about Lord Botetourt please correct me and let me know if I am overvaluing them.

Thank you sir. I kind of assumed that was the situation.

You cannot overstate how vital it is to fielding a competitive team, to have kids coming in with football experience. I can’t even imagine the frustration and difficulty the coaches face when they have to start out with kids that don’t even know how to properly put their gear on, or to get down in a stance.

Good luck to your team buddy. You are a true and loyal Monacan fan.
