GW vs Covington may not happen!

Anyone heard this?
Come on brother. When you make a post like this, for the love of God, at least give the readers something as to why? Even if a rumor, what's the deal? What's the reason or what's the possible rumor or reason? Covid? etc

I’m asking if this is true? Sorry

Unfortunately for the players, this seems to have happened quite often at Covington over the spring and fall seasons.

I guess it's too late to re-seed and give Galax, the top seed, the bye week.

Graham I agree with you but people post mysterious stuff like that all the time on almost any kind of board, thereby forcing you to read it to see what they are talking about. It makes sooooooo much more sense to title your topic appropriately. For example you would never see me title a post "Riverheads News" and make people read it to see what the news was.

As for what to do about this Covington situation, I think there is enough time to re-seed teams, move somebody up, or whatever, even if a game has to be moved to Saturday or even Monday to help someone prepare. GW should not simply get a forfeit and move on to the next round.

Agree. The argument though, will be coaches who have now practiced 2 full days (Monday and Tuesday) in preparation for what they thought was their opponent. I would be willing to bet that most coaches at this point, if they had the choice, would likely vote to stay the course, but can't be sure about it.

The Giles guy wrote this on swvasports and he was right. He said somebody would have their season end due to Covid. And, for kids that are vaxd, you don't have to quarantine if exposed to someone with C19. You can still practice and play, but the kids that ain't vaxd, if they are counted as exposed, they have to quarantine and this is why if you aren't vaxd, you want to be sure you stay at least 6 feet from other students. The danger isn't the other football player, it's the other kid in school that doesn't play football that comes to school sick, then gets a Covid positive at the end of the day, and they do contract tracing. You don't want to be one of those in the contract tracing counted as exposed.

I'd question whether its actually covid issues or not. This makes like the third time this year this has happened to Covington. Once again, not questioning the kids or their desire to play here.

One thing we do not need to make this is a "see kids, you should be ashamed of yourselves for not getting vaxxed" moment.

A George Wythe poster on other board eluded it wasn’t due to Covid but another issue. Who really knows unless Covington releases an official statement? At this point it is all speculation as to why they forfeited. George Wythe should not get the bye. Either move a team up or give #1 seed the bye.

just read on SWVA that is was the other C word not covid. not sure what that means.

its not that easy to move teams up. Im sure they would be all for that. my buddy in 1B said for that to happen the district has to vote and be a majority vote. so doubt coaches would want to switch teams mid week. its a conundrum for sure.

“Move everyone up” boom easy enough…bahahahaha, the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard. Coaches spent the weekend, breaking down film, meeting to create a weeks long practice plan and game plan, they’ve spent 2 days hammering it into their players head and now BOOM Wednesday “ummm guys everything we’ve prepared you for this week…scratch that we aren’t playing them anymore.” It is an unfortunate situation and I do believe Galax deserves the bye out of anyone but at this point it is what it is. Unfortunately, this has been Covingtons deal for 2 seasons now and anyone who’s followed region C or Cov district (I think Pioneer) has heard week to week “Covingtons game status is up in the air and should know midweek.” I think Galax handles business this week vs Grayson and then likely the same the next week vs GW and this will all be a moot point anyways.

Yeah we definitely don't deserve a bye when Galax has earned the #1. I get everyone has been getting ready for a completely different opponent but it could be done where Galax gets a bye and we play Narrows.

My only issue with it is if Galax plays as the 1 seed and has some injuries that could cost them later and the 4 seed is at the house recovering from any bumps and bruises and not worried about getting any injuries. Let me be clear I'm not blaming GW for them getting the bye its just the way things worked out.

And that happened to Galax a few years back where their top RB got hurt didnt it? I think a game vs. Bland?

What people don’t realize it isn’t just a regular 8 seed team that Galax will be playing. It is a cross town rival that can lose 9 games a and beat galax and its considered a successful season. Lol . Our players was very chippy the other night and I am sure will be even more so after getting 40 plus hung on them last Friday.

Ummm, that sounds like a discipline issue that should be handled by the new coaching regiment that was hand picked by the superintendent. There’s a difference in rivalry and dirty play and respect for a team that’s just better than you. However, Grayson has already set the precedent that they don’t want to play Galax by pushing the “re-seeding issue“ on Tuesday evening. So you’re probably right; it’ll be a flag fest and hopefully Galax kids can keep their heads on straight and take care of business.

The superintendent is knee deep in every football decision in Grayson.......with the amount of money he has spent on program this season and salary of head coach I am sure he feels entitled,
