Handley Football

They should be better than last year, but I don't think they'll be back up to typical Handley form. A lot of youth on that team, including in the coaching staff from what I've heard. They could always surprise. I don't think anyone had Millbrook beating LCA 65-18 in the playoffs last year after all. They have a lot of winnable games on their schedule.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Winchester cut middle school sports for a few years, and has now brought them back? If that's the case then the guys coming up will be a lot more prepared for high school games.

Only football was removed and I believe that was back in the mid to late 80's. During that time 8th graders played for the Freshmen team at JH. However, the middle school program returning should help immensely with the development of players.

The Winchester/Frederick County Youth League used to be solid development because the better 8th graders played Freshmen and the underdeveloped 8th graders played Rec football. The talent in the youth league dropped tremendously over the years and it hurt the depth for JH.

1992 was the last season Daniel Morgan middle school had a football program. The rec league used to be stronger, now it's not. Glad to see the middle school step up. I think Handley with a new coach and a new system might take a little time to get on track. There is plenty of talent in that school. Best of luck to the judges.

Thanks for the insight.
