Will the Central District be the district in the state?

With Ty White expected to be named Head Coach at Petersburg High School on Monday, will the Central be the best district in the state? Dinwiddie is a state power in C4 football, Hopewell is a state power in C3 football and basketball, Dale is always a contender in boys & girls basketball and football, PG has Coach Hall and will be a contender soon, and Petersburg has hired a former NFL player to coach their football team and will now have the best basketball coach in the state. MBK has the history and looks to be getting better with more stability and Colonial Heights getting better and better…

Interesting to see how this develops at petersburg with White. I believe alot depends on the enforced transfer policies and rules, will he be able to bring in some of those JM and aau players to Petersburg. Petersburg has it's own home grown talent and athletes and I don't believe we will see 5 or 6 transfers coming into Petersburg. Unless something changes. Just my opinion. The JM situation it's more than meets the eye.

the only threat to the District coming from Chesterfield PS. They will again try to get the VHSL to approve an all Chesterfield County District which would gut the Central.

CCPS has ten high schools with the new western one in the permitting and design process. That will make a full ten game schedule. Chesterfield is the fastest growing locality in VA. In time, it will dominate the area.

Petersburg City is soon going to have more cash and economic development when the casino opens. Cash will be flowing off of I95. Just look at Danville.

Petersburg’s JV just had a 10-0 season last year, don’t be surprised if they’re one of the top 3a teams in the upcoming years or sooner. Especially with LT being down and Lafayette moving up to 4A

I didn’t know that 😳 I was told that Mathis will have those guys right. I saw some friendly back and forth banter about Petersburg Athletics being back. Would like to see them being competitive with Dinwiddie and Hopewell in football especially.

Sounds like a downgrade to me but who am I? Dale and Matoaca are good for the Central District. I'm guessing Huguenot and Wythe would join the Central? Maybe Mecklenburg leaves the Piedmont and joins the distrct (way closer to Dinwiddie/Hopewell/ Petersburg than 1/6 of the Piedmont schools)? Maybe Powahtan and Louisa joins the Colonial with the West End teams. Interesting!

I agree, from what I'm hearing Hopewell is looking like a 3A state contender but time will tell. They open up against Highland Springs and then Thomas Jefferson.

I can't help but wonder if Henrico tries to follow suit if Chesterfield succeeds. Henrico has 9 high schools currently.

Back in the early 80s the only Chesterfield School in the central district was Monacan and the remaining schools were Marshall-Walker, Armstrong-Kennedy, and Hopewell, Petersburg, Dinwiddie and prince George and the chesterfield schools played each other. So history is repeating itself. From what I remember.

You're thinking of the old Dominion District days... Varina was also a member at that time of the Dominion District along with Colonial Heights and Mills Godwin.
