This abrupt resignation raising many questions and there is no comment from the individual is raising even more questions as to what happened?

Handley girls' soccer coach John Lynch resigns

WINCHESTER — Handley’s John Lynch has resigned after more than eight years as the school’s head girls’ soccer coach.

Handley director of student activities Reed Prosser said Lynch informed him on Wednesday of his decision. Prosser declined to provide a reason for Lynch’s resignation. Lynch, who teaches in the social studies department at Handley High School, could not be reached for comment after multiple phone calls.

Britt Miller, an assistant coach for the varsity last year, will serve as the Judges’ interim coach this season. Prior to arriving at Handley, the 32-year-old Miller was an assistant coach for two seasons at Ben Lippen School in Columbia, S.C.

Lynch is a three-time Winchester Star Girls’ Soccer Coach of the Year whose teams routinely had success since he took over for Luke Mason in 2011 following seven seasons as a Handley assistant.

Lynch had six winning seasons in eight years and posted a career record of 78-55-9, including 1-0 this year. The Judges went 43-19-6 in district regular season games.

In his first season (2011), Lynch led the Judges to their first-ever Northwestern District regular-season title, their first district tournament title since 2008, and their first region tournament victory since 2001.

The 2011 season marked the first of four district regular-season titles for the Judges under Lynch (2015-17 were the others). Handley’s district championship reign ended in 2018, but the Judges did set a school record for regular-season wins with 12. Handley finished 13-5 overall and 8-4 in the Class 4 Northwestern District.

Lynch also guided Handley to three region tournaments and the Conference 23 tournament championship in 2015.

Lynch’s Winchester Star Coach of the Year awards came in 2011, 2016 and 2017.

The Judges won their first game under Miller on Thursday 7-0 against Central to improve to 2-0. Handley’s next game is on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Sherando.

Any word on why? I know he resigned as Coach from the Shenandoah Elite Travel club as well.
