What is Harrisonburg's record on the season after tonight?

School website shows Harrisonburg now 4-4.
Wins-Turner Ashby, James Wood, Eastern Mennonite, Waynesboro
Losses-Sherando, Stafford, John Handley, Lee

Early in the season the Valley district looks like 1-Spotswood 2-Lee 3-Harrsonburg as the top teams.

Would love to see the Leemen end Spotswood's valley district win streak when the time comes , but I know it will be a tall task

This Lee team is reminding me a lot of past title teams. They play defense, withstand runs, go on their own big runs, are physical and explosive. I think Lee is going to be making a deep run come tourney time.

Lee has games ahead with Sherando, Amelia Co, Spotswood twice, Waynesboro twice, Martinsville, and of course the rematch with Harrisonburg. Lee will be tested and there are certainly some good games to watch ahead for the Leemen.

I don't think this Lee team is as good as those title teams from a decade ago. They were more balanced and played better defense in my opinion. This team reminds me of the Tyler Crawford team when he was a junior. He averaged around 25 points a game, and had a sidekick in Taylor with 13-15 points a game. The rest of the players varied in scoring from game to game.

This season it looks like George will get his 25 a game, with Vaughan adding 13-15 a game. With the other players it varies. That Crawford team was a state tournament type team but lost to Turner Ashby in the regionals. Turner Ashby gave Lee 3 of their 5 losses that season. This Lee team is probably a state tourney team, but like then it depends on the east tournament pairings.

The big differences in the title teams and this team are 2 things. The first is guard play. The second is coaching. I will talk about coaching at another time but this team doesn't have the guard play. Yes you can play bigger then local teams that don't have anyone over 6'2 and aren't as athletic. But wait till they play someone who can put the pressure on the guards.

thetrey be thinking that there be some truth in that, truthforyou - not that the leefans be wantin' to hear any of that.

More so than the Spotswood matchup is the East Rock game in conference. That will set the region matchup. Dont wish the season away.

Guard play is certainly Lee's weak point. I dont see Lee "pressuring" opponents like the teams you mention Leemen. And what if George gets in foul trouble? who scores?

Truthforyou .. the TA game you mention may have been the best Regional Semi ever played .. that was a freaking war

Jarvis vaughan and Manny Johnson are players who are not only big at 6'5 and 6'8 but are contributers in big ways. I think people are underestimating the team that Lee has. Also as far as one player carrying a team. It can happen but....this team will not just be a Darius George team. They have talent and experience. Also if gaurds are throwing all-oop dunks and making three's then they must be decent.

Lee's height and George's explosiveness will be enough to get Lee a state title. I am not saying they will win it...I am saying the pieces are there for a title this season. Time will tell though.

Throwing alley oops and making 3s make guards good? I dont think anyone is under estimating them just pointing out things that they need to work on. It is DEC for God's sake, Relax and dont keep telling everyone they have state potential. Of course they do. Let it play out,

Yes. It is way too early to say any team will make the final 4. Who knows which teams will be playing their best ball come playoff time. Gate City looks to have the best 1-2 punch in the state with Ervin and McClung, a deserving #1 ranking now. But you know coach Adkins at Martinsville will improve the Bulldogs as the season goes on. And there are other teams in the west like Richlands, Graham, and Dan River who will have something to say about who goes to Richmond.

The east has Lee, Madison County, East Rockingham, and others who could make the final 4. I like Lee's potential too, but will they be playing their best ball come February-March, and will it be enough? It will be a good season to watch play out across the state.

GC will have to scratch and claw their way out of the west if they make it. Graham, Richlands, Martinsville, and Dan River will stand in the way and they will give GC all they want. McClung and Ervin is a deadly 1-2 punch.....But what makes them so dangerous this year is the addition of the Freshman Bradley Dean. He's averaging 17-18 PPG right now....Along with Macs 30 ppg and Ervin's 27 ppg. He's an absolute sharp shooter from deep....Can shoot as soon as he steps across half court effortlessly. He also has great handle and sees the court incredibly well. Add Collier into the equation cleaning up junk under the rim....That's what makes this GC team dangerous. You can't defend Mac 1 on 1 and when you double him... all the other guys can score. But even as good as they have looked.....There's LOTSSS of room for improvement and I'm sure all their flaws will surface in the Arbys. Those teams will exploit everything that needs to be improved and it should help the Devils. How GC plays against Wings Academy will tell alot about this team.

And I won't even begin to talk about how good teams like RE Lee, Madison County, East Rock, etc are looking right now. No guarantee that GC will even make it that far....Gotta take care of business in the West first. Seems like the East has its fair share of talented teams this year. Would love to watch RE Lee play a game or two. George and Vaughn seem like the real deal combo.

For fans wanting a great day of basketball to watch. January 21st in Lexington there is a full schedule of games. Two of the highlights are a 3A match up between Spotswood and Northside. To me the highlighted match up will be Martinsville against R.E.Lee. There are other games too as part of the Rock the Ribbon classic.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I have attended it several times and it is a nice event for a good cause. My team, being 1-A, is always scheduled early and therefore the crowd is very small. I hope for the sake of the charity that the attendance picks up during the day. Generally they give the host team, Rockbridge, a prime-time match-up, so maybe that helps.
