As a senior on the 1st team he coached at Buckingham in 96, coming off an 0-10 season and losers of 16 out of the last 20 I knew we had the right coach to turn us around. He was very detailed and his voice was one of a kind and his emotion towards his players made anybody want to play for him. Over the years schools from all over had tried to lure him away but the love for what he had built and the relationship with the county wouldn't let him go. I'm gonna miss him he was more than just our coach he was a figure to each and every one of us. He has been fighting cancer over the last 3yrs and just by him being in the sidelines on a Friday night took everything he had to do it. We'll always love Coach Gill he's our Legend.

I lost my sister 3 years ago to the same disease and it was tough to see what the disease does to a person. He is one of the strongest and most dedicated people because what he has managed to do with this disease is simply incredible. I am sure the Knight's family will rally around Coach Gill and his family! Thoughts and prayer's for Coach Gill and everyone effected by his illness are being sent from this part of Goochland......

If you just look at Coach Gill's stats at Buckingham and what their history was prior to his arrival, it is staggering....

1971-1995
5 Playoff Appearances
2 District Titles
0 Playoff Victories

1996-2015
10 Playoff Appearances (99, 01, 02, 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15)
5 District Titles (02, 09, 10, 13, 15)
11 Playoff Victories
2 State Semifinal Appearances (2002, 2013)
1 State Runner Up (2002)
His final 7 years the Knights won no less than 8 games a season, and along the way just as people have said touched many lives both on and off the field, and shaped many men. Had the opportunity to play for him for 4 years and return as a coach for 6. One of the most influential men in my life; truly cannot say enough about him, and I know a lot of former Knights who probably have a ton of Coach Gill stories they still love to tell! Truly one of a kind, an awesome coach, and an even better person.

I've heard they've interviewed 11 coaches so far. Some from well known programs but that's all can say.

coached against him for three years, his players were mentally prepared and i KNOW they knew what they were doing in the WEIGHT ROOOM. Legend. Sad to see it come to an end.
