Henrico remained perfect on the season with a hard fought 55-54 win over Lake Taylor in the 8th Annual Virginiapreps.Com Classic at J.R Tucker High School. University of Richmond commit De'Monte Buckingham made a clutch game winning basket with 24 seconds remaining for the Warriors who trailed by as many as eight points late in the 3rd quarter.

Buckingham, an explosive high-flyer who gives maximum effort on every play, finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds. He played his best with the game on the line and he also set the Henrico scoring record.

Trailing by three to start the 3rd quarter, Buckingham drove the lane and was fouled while converting a layup. His free throw tied the score at 43 with about seven minutes to go. Lake Taylor sophomore Joe Bryant broke the tie with two free throws and Amahd Elliott made a layup at the 5:09 mark for a 47-43 lead.

The last few minutes continued the physical play and two technical fouls were called as both teams got little testy. The Titans lost a key piece when Travius Smith fouled out with 3:59 to go and a 4-point lead. Less than two minutes later, the game was tied after a scoop layup off the backboard by Henrico guard Gus Rowland.

Joe Bryant made a big three to put the Titans ahead 54-53 with 1:06 to go. Buckingham's long jumper from the top of the key gave the lead back to Henrico with 24 seconds to go. Bryant tried to win the game but his shot attempt was off the mark.

The physical play in the 1st half featured scoring runs by both teams. A short left-handed jumper from Jalen Jordan staked Lake Taylor to their first lead 10-9. Amahd Elliott's 3-pointer with 1:13 left in the 1st quarter gave Lake Taylor a 15-12 lead. A three by 6-foot-8 senior Richard Sanders started a run for Henrico. Buckingham converted a thunderous breakaway dunk and Jamal Newton made two free throws for a 7-0 run to put Henrico ahead 23-17 with six minutes to go before halftime.

The Warriors briefly went to a box-and-1 defense on Travius Smith and that set the stage for the Amahd Elliott show. He made a layup, a three from the corner, and a 15-foot foot jumper for a personal 7-0 run to put Lake Taylor back in-front 28-27. The score was tied 29-29 at halftime.

Elliott started the second half with a three but both teams went cold going three minutes with no scoring. Dereon Seabron made a layup to end the scoring drought and give the titans a 36-34 lead. A tip-in by Travius Smith ended a 6-0 scoring run and Lake Taylor led 40-34 with 1:22 to go. Seabron drained a three and the lead was pushed to eight (43-35).
