I think Manchester is playing good football right now. This maybe the best offense that Hermitage has seen. Especially since the HSHS game was the 1st game of the season and both teams were trying to figure themselves and the other out.

A Manchester win would sure shake things up in 5A Richmond and have reverberations around the state in 6A that Manchester is a serious threat for a 6A title.

I think Hermitage is the obvious favorite. Hermitage has the best Defense in the area. Does Manchester have the best offense? It is certainly debatable.

Thoughts on this game?

Welp... I picked Manchester. I thought Brandon Clarke passing game would be the most balanced offense that Hermitage had faced.

Good win for Manchester. Hermitage now goes into a bye. Moving forward I don't think you can beat Hermitage with a run only offense. The blue-print has been laid. Gotta be able to throw the ball and lead with the pass.

Now we see what happens with HSHS and Varina in week 11. What a mess we have on our hands now.

As for Manchester, they just put themselves right back into the class 6a championship discussion.

HS has just as balanced an offense as Manchester and I don't think that Varina is going to be able to slow it very much!
PH played HS tough tonight and it got chippy in the 2nd half! They kept it interesting in the first half answering after HS scored. Score sitting at 21-14 @ halftime.3rd qtr started and PH intercepted HS's 1st play of the half, a pass inside HS's own territory. However, HS stopped them on downs and preceded to expand the score to 28-14.
HS ran the ball extremely well tonight with fewer passes than any all season. The pass game appeared to be a little off, but the power run game was unstoppable for the Patriots. The score went to 35-14 , then 42-14 late in the 4th. The final quarter was a penalty fest with a lot of cheap shots, unsportsmanship and personal foul flags thrown!
PH's last posession was highlighted by a caught long bomb at about the 10 and followed by a leaping 10 yd td pass to cap the scoring at 42-20. Interesting game to watch. One thing is for sure. HS has a very good passing game in it's arsenal, but the have established a very strong running game to go with it.
The playoffs are going to be fun.
Next weeks game vs Varina will be a doozy

Any and all of you guys are invited to join us on our pregame tailgate party on the practice field across Beal St from the main "Kreiter Stadium". Gate for tail gate starts around 4pm, until gametime. Come join us in the fun, food and beverages!

Question if HSHS had to abandon the run... Could they win with just the pass? I believe Manchester can and prefers to pass.

Does HSHS prefer either over the other?

HS will run at you and run at you. Drawing the defenders in to the "box". Which opens the pass lanes up. That become open,....the main reason HS's offense is so hard to defend! Most teams don't have enough athletes to cover what we have and what we can do with it!.Slow one part, another side of it opens up. We used about 6 or 7 different running backs tonight. Slant, screen, straight down field passes and a 1 minute / 2 minute pass game. Sometimes fast tempo (no hudle), sometimes not....
I haven't seen a team in the past 3 or 4 years that has been able to shut down our offense completely. Don't say MBK did. We lost Juwan Carter that night and we didn't have a qb.MBK got real lucky that night. I don't think Waller's passing numbers will be very impressive tonight. Hence, one might think that PH was able to shut the passing game down. The run game clicked and clicked all night.
Last week Waller had 248 or so passing yard and 4 td passes. The week before, he had 378 yards and 5 td passes. Probably 150 to 180 rush yards those 2 weeks. Tonight, he might have had 100 pass yards 1 td and probably 350 rushing yards. You will have to have a dynamite defense to slow both aspects of that offense. Don't forget, we do have a very formidable defense as well

Def agree no one has stopped the offense in several years. If you get the win against Varina will you have the top seed in 5a Richmond or will it still go to Herm bc of the head to head victory?

SB passing attack about to eat them up if they make it past HSHS! Best team in Va....guess not!

Is Stone Bridge the best team in the state?

Sounds like you think so and have thought so for a while.

I can promise you Hermitage is a good squad along with a few other 804 5a’s. Outside of STone Bridge the 5a division is a little light in Nova.

Tusc, John Champe, massapanox... I’ll take the 804 bunch over those.

Stone Bridge may be the best 5a in the state but Nova isn’t the strongest region so don’t celebrate too early.

You do got a 50-50 shot though I’ll give you that. One thing for sure it will be the Nova champ vs the 804 champ...the 757 and the west have nothing for either

Who will be your toughest playoff opponent getting out of your region assuming you beat Broad Run next week? Will it be playing Broad Run a few weeks later?

Why sleeping on Broad Run?? You do realize they 9-0 right????

Naw I know they are 9-0 and they are a top 10 team in the state at this point regardless of classification. I think their schedule has been a little lighter than the 804 teams though. If they have a good showing against your boys then I will give them a whole lot of credit win or lose.

mbonape1, Region 5C is top heavy and they are all in the same conference. The best teams are Stone Bridge and Broad Run, then Tusky, then Champe. IMO, only those four are the ones with a legit chance in their region, and I fully expect it to be a SB-BR replay in the region final three weeks after they meet the first time (barring an upset along the way).

I disagree. Tuscarora will finish 8-2 had BR on the ropes holding 21-0 lead in 4th with less than 9 mins to go and imploded . Then played SB very tough to a 14-13 L

I predict Tuscarora beats Broad Run in Round 2. Then we get to play Tusky again at home. I'm confident we dish them more than a 1 point L this time. Our coaching staff is very good at making scheme and gameplan adjustments when we see a team two times in a season.

C is Top heavy? In what region is a #5 seed coming out in 5??? I'm calling BS on that.

Great win for Manchester, tough loss for us! Hermitage defense played hard as always. Manchester's first touchdown, the drive was extended by special teams (fake punt). Second touchdown drive, they made some great plays and Herm had a couple dumb penalties on that drive too, but we seem to always have some dumb penalties (legit ones, I'm not crying about a supposed conspiracy here). Herm had a great goal line stand that held them to a FG. Manchester kicker hit a 41-42 yarder as well. Manchester D also had a 96 yard pick 6. The Lancer's pulled out all the stops and it paid off with a great win, and I'm not gonna sit here like a lot of fans and make excuses for Hermitage. We had a chance to win the game late that we got lucky to have, and it ended on an INT. Manchester outplayed and out coached us ( I think they'll get killed by a team like Colonial Forge, should they make it far enough to see them, but that's just my humble opinion). For me, just being realistic, I don't think our offense can play consistently well enough to win a State Championship. Special Teams are clearly a problem too... fake punt got us last night, kick return TD for Thomas Dale, HSHS had 2 punt returns TD's on us, yes they were called back for penalties but it doesn't change the fact that it happened. No one showed up on offense/special teams last night except for CJ Jackson (scored both our TD's and one was a kickoff return). Hermitage defensively, can play with anybody, but against teams like Stone Bridge or a rematch with a much improved HSHS team, I seriously doubt it's enough. I'm a diehard Hermitage fan and alum, but I don't wear "rose colored" glasses like many fans do. All that being said, I certainly hope no one is stupid enough to feel "safe" playing us. If that happens, you will get beaten and probably very badly. In the end, as always, I'll be rooting for the 804 representative all the way (GO SPRINGERS!...that's my pick)

hshs V herm games are always a battle that usually come down to who has the ball last. If HSHS should beat Varina next week, it will be very interesting to see how the seedings play out!! Honestly, I'd rather be the #2 seed. It is looking like the 1 seed could wind up playing the winner of a Varina v Bird matchup! Last year in the same round, Herm was pitted against Bird and HS drew Freeman, because Bird was the 3 seed. The 2 & 3 meet, 1 & 4 meet. This year, Bird or Varina could be in the 4 & 5 spots.

Henrico looks likely to be #3.

I read somewhere that even a loss last night would not drop Hermitage out of the #1 seed, regardless of how next week plays out. Don't remember where I read that, but I'll try to find it and post a link here for any who are interested to read!!

HS needed for Henrico to lose and Lee Davis to keep winning

So it boils down to who would you rather play the winner or Bird vs Varina or Henrico??? Sounds like Herm is the automatic number 1 seed correct?

Sounds like Herm is the automatic number 1 seed correct?
That is my understanding, but I'm not 100% sure.

Class 5, Region B: Eight teams qualify. It looks like Hermitage (9-0) will get the No. 1 seed no matter what happens Friday against Manchester. Hermitage's lead on No. 2 Highland Springs (7-1) is a wide one. Henrico (6-2), L.C. Bird, (5-3), Varina (6-2) and Lee-Davis (6-2) will occupy spots 3-6. But what order they'll go in is still up in the air.

Deep Run (4-4) and Meadowbrook (3-5) currently hold the seventh and eighth spots, but they're no guarantee to get in. Prince George (4-4), Freeman (4-5), Tucker (3-5) and Godwin (4-4) all have a chance to sneak in.

That is the article I read! If it's correct is another story. I haven't looked at any of the number's in awhile

Interesting but unless you had a bunch of typos, you are a week behind on everyones record. Every team should have played at least 9 games and some have already played 10 games like Hermitage

The article was written before last Friday nights games. That's why it shows Herm at 9-0 and has the line "no matter what happens Friday against Manchester"

Yes, Tusky will almost certainly finish 8-2. But they were only up 12-0 on BR in the 4th-that's 2 scores, very doable with 9 minutes to play. Totally different story if it was 21-0, but it wasn't. Tusky did eventually give up 4 TDs in the 4th quarter, but with BR only needing 2 TDs to win it wasn't as bad as you pointed out.

Tusky could certainly beat BR in a rematch if that happens; they are pretty evenly matched, but I still give the nod to BR. Either way, I don't think either will top SB in a region final, if that is how it plays out.

Yes, 5C is top heavy in the fact that 4 of the top 5 teams are from the Potomac District (and possibly the top 5-have to see the VHSL rankings first and the site is down) and the top 4 are head and shoulders above the rest of 5C. The best team the National has to offer Region 5C is Falls Church, and they will probably come in at either #5 or #6. That is top heavy, period. The bottom 3 teams are just bad in relation to the best 5C has to offer. You really think Falls Church has any sort of chance against the top 4 in the Potomac?

They have very little chance I agree. Still disagree of the outcome if they play again. Guess we shall see! I think Tusky is better team at this point of the season.

The only reason the HSHS loss to Herm would come into play is if they were tied after this week.

My WAG is that it will be within .1 points difference.

@Herm95 you are being too tough on your bunch. It just wasn’t their night against Manchester. They still have every opportunity to win a state title. This loss means nothing in the grand scheme of things. If you were going to scramble... it’s better to get it out of the way in the reg season. Good luck the rest of the way.

The blue-print has definitely been laid, but you must have a QB like Clarke to execute that plan. The kid was awesome Friday night, best performance I have seen from a HS QB EVER!. He was amazing. Also I would like to give credit to the MHS defensive front. They were disruptive all night.

Just being realistic, based on what I've seen from having attended 9 of the 10 games this season. I'm not concerned with the loss, it could be a good thing if it has the right effect on our kids. I'm not being hard on them, I just don't think our offense is consistent enough to win a State Title and our special teams this year have been suspect at best against good opponents, but of course we have a shot. It also can't be denied, by anyone who watches Hermitage play regularly, we commit a bunch of dumb penalties. I love Hermitage, always have always will, and it goes far beyond football. I just call things like I see them. Good luck to you guys the rest of the way too, that's a fine football team ya'll have got!

My sentiments exactly, special teams and penalties are an every game issue with us. The penalties are always really dumb ones but we can usually overcome. Manchester was just better than we were Friday. I agree on our offense, we just seem to be missing something this year....we completely abandoned the pass after the second interception until the very end and then it happened again. Love the defense but the offense has some work to do. I agree with Herm95, I will die a Panther fan, but have to be realistic. With that all said, CJ came to play Friday as he does every week.

24-30, 215yards, 1 TD....those were his listed stats. He played very well, given the defense he was facing in Hermitage, he played great. I've seen better!
I have seen better stats for sure, but he executed the plan flawlessly. He did not try to force it deep like most QBs. He took what we gave him all night and we did not adjust very well. Our defense has DBs that can cover, let them play bump and run coverage.

You will not see a better passer than Brandon Clarke this year in my opinion. Manchester may be the only true pass first offense in 6A & 5A that has a shot at a title.

Others can pass too but they prefer to run first.
