Is there such a thing as face guarding in High school football? Example, Db is running with receiver and step for step on a go pattern and the DB never looks backand the ball hits the DB in the head, PI?

Different example: DB is running with receiver and without turning throws his hands up as he feels ball approaching knocks ball away, PI?

last example: DB runs with receiver but pushes him out of bounds as they are running upfield (not with his hands but with his body) PI?

There's another thread below (link at bottom) that delves into pass interference so I'll just graze it this time, but the biggest thing about it is that it is such a judgment call. What is PI to one guy might not be to another, especially the non-contact PI like faceguarding.

Yes, in h.s. ball, faceguarding is PI. But it requires hindering the vision of the receiver. In your example the defender throws his hands up and knocks away the ball. Not enough info there to say. If he threw his hands directly in front of the mask of the receiver, probably faceguarding. If he could tell from the receiver's eyes the ball was nearly there and threw his hands up between the receiver's hands, that's solid defense.

In the last example, that could very well be PI, if judged to be intentional. If it's judged to be incidental contact, it's not. Each and every call is judgment and often requires the official to make an educated guess about the player's intention.
