Hokie HC

Mike Elko, Jamey Chadwell, or in a perfect world Billy Napier or Dave Clawson. But Napier should be the first choice for LSU.

But who knows. Maybe Babcock will pull a rabbit out of his hat and surprise us all!

Better be an experienced coach from the SEC and not another one from a non power 5 conference.

Call the LA Chargers and get Chris Beatty he will make sure in state kids stay in va
Beatty would be a risky call, but he could also be an absolute homerun. An incredible recruiter and savvy coach. But he doesn't have the head coaching experience. If he isn't the head coach, he would be a hell of an OC. NOBODY would be able to recruit the 757 better than Beatty.

Never understood Fuente placing a high priority on recruiting TX. Ton of stops/destinations between TX and Blacksburg - most of the SEC, Oklahoma hits it hard, not to mention all the in state schools. Made zero sense.

You could build a pretty competitive P5 program with the talent overlooked in VA, Charlotte metro, Greensboro (had some success there), etc. A lot of coaches don't hit anything east of 95 hard either. Wouldn't even have to have top classes. Of course that's assuming you can coach them up. Clawson has made a living off that at WF.

Hugh Freeze is still damaged goods IMO. But he can coach, but in this situation, I think his baggage from Ole Miss is still too much of a burden for alumni and boosters

They need a quick fix that could help prevent losing a recruiting class & could actually spring a few surprises. Why else does VT make a change mid recruiting cycle? To me Freeze fits that for them. But whomever it is, I think they already have their choice.

Just throwing out names, but Gary Patterson did a heck of a job for many long years at TCU and built a tough program with the type of athletes Tech would get. They're not going to pull in the large number of 4-5 star recruits and he has a great history of being competitive in a tough league and recruited those 2-3 stars.

It's going to be a tough rebuild. The portal might help some, but you might have to turn over that entire roster. Tech, at least in my mind, should always pull in top-25ish classes. That's around five-to-seven 4-star recruits each cycle on average. Facilities might need improvement, and they haven't won a lot recently, but given the tradition, fan support, and location - that should definitely be doable.

The biggest problem at VT is that they are 2+ hours from any major population area. It is tough to recruit kids to VT when they have to fly into Roanoke and then drive 45 minutes up the mountain to Bburg. When they could use private planes they used to fly them straight to Bburg, but the NCAA put an end to that 10-15 years ago.

But there is no way that UNC should be poaching the top prospects from Virginia like they have been. Penn State and OSU doing the same. Put a fence around Virginia and then get 5-6 out of state kids from every year. Just my opinion.

Whoever they get, I want them to succeed, but I'm also realistic at what "success" will be. They aren't bringing home a national title. But playing for the ACC title every other year is realistic.

Exactly. VaTech should be the football school in VA. Getting at least a couple from the top-10 in state, and a few from neighboring states shouldn't be that difficult.
