Mike Vick hired at Norfolk State

Norfolk State football alumnus here. I don't love the hire because he's never coached a down of football. BUT I 100% get it. I genuinely hope it works but there are plenty more "deserving" black coaches who could've got the job.
They are looking for the Deion effect although, to your point, Deion had coached high school football. It seems they are looking for more of a motivator of men than a playcaller.

I thought about that too but then I realized that Vick has enough connections to some guys that are great on field coaches. Hopefully he surrounds himself with knowledgeable and experienced people.

Mike Vick and Prime are two totally different situations. Prime went to Jackson State at the time of the movement of trying to get 4 and 5 stars at HBCUs. Mike Vick is going to put VA college football on the map again. We’re struggling.

Gimme two deserving black coaches that kids are going to knock the door down to come to Norfolk State bro? Realistically.. Vick may very well be a flop in 5 years but NSU hasn’t been close to good in football so this risk is better than anything UVA, VT or JMU has going for themselves.

I wouldn’t say that it’s better than what the larger programs have going on…it’s more of an attempt to legitimize NSU football. There’s a lot of hurdles to overcome when coaching at an HBCU, it’s not going to look like how it did when he was at tech in any way. NSU made a solid hire but if the community support doesn’t match what JSU had or the wins don’t come this hire is mainly NSU spinning tires in mud.

I'm sure MV7's goal will be to continue to get 4 and 5 stars to HBCUs too. Hopefully he can "put VA college football on the map again" by keeping the VA talent (not just 4 and 5 stars) in state. VA Tech lost recipes when they brought Fuente in after Beamer.

Why do “they” need a “motivator of men” those kids are already motivated, they’re in college already aren’t they, to me that is motivation. NSU needs excellent coaches period.
Hope it works out. You'll know in less than 2 years.

You're looking at motivation at the most basic level. They showed up to campus, good job. Now what? Everyone isn't a self-motivator at all times.

A motivator of men or people in general excels at getting the most out of people....turning that potential to kinetic. Unearthing a level of talent in people that they didn't know they had. Helping them understand their why. Keeping them locked in no matter what's going on around them. Being influential.

And all programs need "excellent" coaches to excel. Assembling a group of "excellent" coaches is another topic.

Idk if this is anything better than what JMU is doing or what Tech is trying to do but lord knows UVa has nothing going on lol

I honestly don’t see this happening in the NIL era at Norfolk State. Just being realistic. Talent wise the MEAC is behind. I think d2 VSU and VUU could win the MEAC.

Not this year. SC State and Central woulda got them out the paint.

But yeah Vick will get his share of top recruits. The State (of Virginia) will find the NIL money. There are also still a number of players that just want to play the game cause they love it and want legit playing time. Former 5 and 4 stars transfer down all the time.

Yeah don’t hold your breath on Vick getting top recruits. The top kids are barely looking at the P4 in state schools. Best case scenario is NSU becoming Last Chance U like.
