Honaker 40 - Surry 32, half

Honaker 68 - Surry 49 FINAL

Side note, both Honaker big men missed open statement slams in the last two minutes of the game...

Re: Honaker 68 - Surry 49 FINAL

Everybody, including Hatfield, seems to slight Honaker. They just made the state finals and that is all you have to say?!?

Re: Honaker 68 - Surry 49 FINAL

I didn't do any game commentary, just comment on an odd series of events. A 6'8" player and a 6'5" player both missed open dunks.

They've got a good inside out game, they good good size and when the outside shots are draining they're a difficult team. They're smart with the ball and play smart (not many fouls). Their size enabled a bunch of rebounds but on the offensive glass they need to step it up on Wednesday. They see and share the ball well. The game could have been closer if Surry made some shots but credit to Honaker for making them take bad shots.

I'm not comment on any finals match up until tonight after the other semifinal game.

Re: Honaker 68 - Surry 49 FINAL

Killer, are you making trip to Richmond this year. I wanted to go, but the game times were not to my satisfaction. It's stupid playing in middle of a work day.

Re: Honaker 68 - Surry 49 FINAL

No I'm choosing to give my money to the ACC tournament instead. Playing meaningful games on weekdays at 10 am is a joke.

Re: Honaker 68 - Surry 49 FINAL

Monday for semifinals I can forgive and understand... if you're going to play all 6 classifications and boys/girls at one location in one week... someone's got to play Monday. But Wednesday at 10 a.m. for a state final is a joke. If you're going to play all games at one location it should be Monday-Thursday for semis and Friday and Saturday for finals...

Edit - I'm not saying it should be all at one place for all 12 tourneys but if it is then Monday games is unavoidable...

Re: Honaker 68 - Surry 49 FINAL

The biggest joke is cramming all the games into one week at one location, and a terrible location at that. One would like to think that the VHSL should be smarter than they are. How do they think fans can take a week off work. I guess if I worked at VHSL Headquarters, I'd have no problem. Heck I'd even have a reserved parking space at door of Seigel Center, guarded by Police all day.

Re: Honaker 68 - Surry 49 FINAL

Well, since A-town has already won it, just send the trophy to AltaVista and Honaker can save some time and money by not showing up.

Re: Honaker 68 - Surry 49 FINAL

That's probably a good idea. I'm sure gas money from Southwest VA to Richmond is expensive.

Re: Honaker 68 - Surry 49 FINAL

HR6 we all know your disdain for the Seigel Center...personally, I do not understand what your problem(s) is...it is easily accessible, ample parking, and no bad seat in the house...only problem I see is when the larger schools play, it is a little to small...however, with that said...if you have 6 classifications in both boys n girls, and you play all the games in a week, granted, 10 am is early, however, there are dozens of schools that would love to have that opportunity...for me, playing 10 am on the first day is worse then any other day for the reason, either you have to come on Sunday eve. and stay overnight or leave very early that morning...I guess depends on how far the drive is....I know some on here would like to see the bball championships played in different locales, but, as one who has attended 24 out of last 28 state championships, the Seigel Center is the best location I have been to..wasn't able to go this yr, and it's quite possible I have been to my last one(job reason)...but, how else are you gonna play all these games unless some are played in the daytime...to my knowledge, even back when games were played at Charlottesville and Hampton or Williamsburg, the majority of the games were played in the daytime...it would be better IMO to go back to the old format...3 divisions or no more then 4.. 5 & 6A I believe are more competetive then most of the other divisions...but, every yr someone gripes about this or that...no matter the format, location, teams, travel, etc...somebody is gonna whine and gripe and complain like a 4 yr old who didnt get his sucker....THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS PERFECT!

One question

How far from Seigel Center is your house ?

The Seigel Center is the worst venue in the state for tournament with possible exception of the Scope in Norfolk.

I have been to state championship games in Richmond, Charlottesville, Lynchburg and Norfolk. The Seigel center is terrible venue for championship game. Beyond terrible actually.

if VHSL had consulted me on venue, the Seigel Center would not have been mentioned in my report. I'd like to take you on a tour of venues. We will go to Richmond, Lynchburg and Charlottesville and compare facilities.

Re: One question

About 120 miles at the most...I can be at the Days Inn on W. Broad St. in 2 hours..it's one hour to Charlottesville, and about the same to Lynchburg as Richmond....if you take any Broad St. exit off of I-64, the Seigel is a straight shot..and HR6, apparently you didn't read my post...I have said time and again, that I have been to 24 out of the last 28 state championships..I have been to Scope, Vines, Hampton, Uhall, JPJ(not for high school bball)Seigel and also to Cassel in Blacksburg...you keep saying the Seigel is the worse, but, you don't mention specifics...again, what makes the Seigel Center so bad??

Re: One question

Actually I think the concessions at VCU are better than LU. I was at an LU game this winter and it was awful.

Re: One question

Because attendance at LU is awful, I don't think they put much effort into concessions right now.

Re: One question

yea it was sad, I saw more students walking around on campus than I did in the Vines Center. And it was about 20 degrees outside that night.

Re: One question

HR6, then you just contradicted yourself...you said concessions were better at Vines then Seigel, now, you're saying they are bad..so, which is it? and if the students won't attend games there, why would anyone else...I like the Vines ok...it's a little plain and not very attractive, but, good seats and if parking has improved then it's even better then it was last time I was there

Re: One question

Parking has gotten worse there. The student population is double what it was 10 years ago and the parking has stayed the same. You would have to do it on a week when LU is on spring break.

Re: One question

There's just as many if not more on 29 south going into Charlottesville, and also, if your coming from the north into Lynchburg, the longest it has ever taken me to leave the hotel and get to either parking deck is 15 minutes...not bad and the lights change fairly quickly since Broad St. is the main drag

Re: One question

So, Killas...if parking is worse then it was 10/12 yrs ago, I can't imagine why VHSL would consider it...last time I was there I had to walk about a mile to my car in a pouring rain...no fun when the temp is barely above freezing or even if it is warm

Re: One question

Yea you couldn't hold the entire tournament at LU. Maybe just 3a and 4a. But even then it would be a stretch.

white and blue

Maybe I spoke to soon about the Colonels. I guess maybe their heads got as big as mine did about how well they looked in the Regionals.

Re: One question

Parking has improved since VHSL was there. But if students are on break, as they are this week, it should not be too bad.

at any rate they do have parking, which VCU does not, unless you want to pay to park in a garage, if it's not full.

Re: white and blue

The style Galax played, Gretna could have maybe had a chance if they'd played that way.

Re: white and blue

I had the chance to see Honaker play back at Christmas and saw A-town play Spotswood. I thought back then if they ever meet, Honaker has more than just a chance. Hope the match up is a good one.
