And my point is teams like Richlands and Union are damn good teams and no one wants to draw them in the playoffs either. Both teams are extremely tough on the LOS and have serious talent at the skill positions. If Appomattox or Buckingham are overlooking Richlands or Union, they will be in for a rude awakening. I have no doubt that Appo or BHam are VERY good teams, but the SW portion of the state has two pretty damn good teams too. Ryan, we post on the same forum, SWVA Sports.

Why in the hell would Buckingham or Appomattox over look anybody? Did you not see the thread I posted about Richland's QB? The last two State Champs come from that area with Richlands being a final four team and return key players. I give props to all teams but its seems as of you wanna say the two top teams out here aren't playing anybody. From the looks of your post it seems you are a bit wound up because of how good and physical we said Buckingham and Appomattox were. Calm down because all 4 teams mentioned are in the West so they clearly will sort themselves out. I'm a big fan out John Luke Asbury so I've seen enough to know Richlands can definitely win it all. Union, Giles, Glenvar I also veiw as championship caliber teams. Appomattox and Buckingham are playing at a Championship level also and that's why we will enjoy a hell of a playoff experience as fans. Nobody has won anything and if any of these teams over look anybody they will be in for a rude awakening and I don't know think anybody is gonna lay down for the other no matter what part of the state you are from.
I never once said the top teams in that area play no one. I was saying that if people believe that Appomattax or BHam are not going to be tested in the playoffs, then they will find out the hard way that Richlands in particular has a great team capable of winning it all.
I dont think anyone in the West will overlook anyone, and I dont believe anyone in the other areas will overlook anyone either because from what little I know, those teams have great athletes and excellent coaches. I think you are misconstruing my point. I was simply saying that no team has an easy run to the final four, and that the SWVA teams will play a role in deciding the state champion.
Union has not gotten much talk on here, but with the athletes the Bears have, combined with a very good defense and an offense capable of running the ball and spreading it out wide and throwing to their athletes, they have a shot of making a deep run. I am in no way meaning to belittle teams like Appomattax or Buckingham, only saying that this is a great year in 2A because there are legit 4-5 teams that could win a state title. If you remember last year, Union had Glenvar on the ropes but turnovers killed them in a very close game, and this year Union has a much better QB to go with three potential All-State receivers (Gavin, Noaks, Mitchell), a very tough TE in Barnett, and a surprisingly good running game with Bishop and Fannon with Spears also capable of being a dangerous runner. The defense is much improved, the only team to score more than a couple TDs on Union was Richlands and one was a punt return TD. I think Appomattax is certainly capable of beating Union, as is Glenvar, Giles and Richlands, but Union is also capable of beating any of those teams. I am looking forward to a great playoff season this year, because any of the top 5-6 teams could win it all. You guys are acting like I am saying those teams cannot compete, thats not true. I believe Appo, BHam, etc. are elite teams capable of winning it all. I dont believe they have played a team as good as Richlands yet, but I still believe they are elite teams capable of winning it all.
As a Union fan, I want to avoid Richlands as long as possible, they are a powerhouse and will be tough to beat. I cant comment personally on the other teams, not saw them play, but I've seen Richlands and know what they are capable of doing. What may hurt Union is the fact that the HC is nowhere near as experienced as the other teams' coaches and has not coached in huge games. His playcalling and time management can leave a lot to be desired come playoff time, and that could hurt Union.
So please do not take my post wrong, I am in no way trying to say that Appo/BHam/etc.... are not great teams or not physical.
Its going to be an interesting playoffs. Just like BC said prior, I dont thing BuckTown nor Appo wants to see each other anytime soon. That game was one of the best defensive down in the trenches battle I have seen since Giles/Appomattox 2 years ago (Giles won by a 35 yard FG) with seconds left on the board.
I remember that game well. Giles was fortunate to win. Appo had a great QB who as I recall had family from Giles. He was a tough kid and they played good physical football. I thought we had more depth last year than this year. In the 2nd Giles Glenvar game last year they still didn't run the ball effectively but Clifford was throwing darts to his receivers. If Clifford is on they will be hard to beat. I give Radford a chance against Glenvar because they will spread them out and Finley will hit a receiver who is open or will take off if not and he is elusive in the open field. Defensively I don't think Radford can stop Glenvar though.
Yeah, Kendall Blankenship had great jukes and knew how to make people miss, great speed as well. He is at Hampton Sydney College in Farmville, he plays Safety there. Something that hindered them all year with him behind the snap is Raiders passing game though. He wasnt the best passer and I knew it was going to hurt Raiders in playoffs. Our rushing game wasnt going to be enough to beat yall that day and I knew it watching from stands. He was shoved into the QB slot because their starting QB became ineligible a week before season started (grades). I know his father and mother, they never mentioned to me that they had family out there. Not saying he doesnt though.
