Galax Stats.....
Last year
, Galax finished 6-4 in the regular season and won the state title.
In the 10 regular season games, that team averaged giving up 22 points per game on defense, and averaged 41 pts per game on offense. They outscored their opponents with a 6-4 record by a total of 190 pts.

This year in 2016 for Galax. They finished with an 8-2 record with losses to powerhouse Graham and a rival game in which Galax with hammered with injuries to Fort Chiswell.
In the 10 regular season games this year, the team has averaged giving up on only 12 points per game on defense. On offense for this year, they are averaged 37 pts per game. There margin of victory on average is 250 pts.

Conclusion for Galax: Statistically speaking.....Galax is actually, BETTER than last year. their margin of victory is better. The record is better. The offense is 4 points per game worse than 2015, but their defense is an alarming 10 pts better per game than last year. Again, statistically speaking, they are MUCH better than last year. Now, on the field and by the eyeball test is another thing that is subjective and I can not speak to that. I am just giving you numbers from the past two years which are facts. They show Galax being much better statistically overall.

Riverheads Stats-
Last Year in 2015
, averaged 45 pts per game on offense in the regular season going 10-0. They gave up 12 pts per game last year (11.9 to be exact). Their margin of victory was a whopping 330 points compared to Galax's margin of victory last year in regular season of 190 pts.

This year in 2016 for Riverheads. The overall record is 9-1 compared to 10-0 for last year with the only loss to Stuarts Draft. This year, Riverheads only gives up 11 pts per game (10.9 to be exact) which is 1 point better than last year. The offense is averaging 42.6 pts per game which is about 2.5 pts less per game than last year. The overall margin of victory for this year is 306 pts which is slightly less than the 330 points last year.

Conclusion for Riverheads. Offensively, they average about 2.5 pts per game less this year than last year. Defensively, they give up 1 less point per game (about 11 pts per game) compared to last year which was about 12 points per game. Their margin of victory this year is 306 pts, which is less than 2015's 330 pts. Statistically speaking, they are slightly not as good as last year. These are facts. Again, there is also the eyeball test and that is subjective and I can not speak to it. Those are opinions that could go on for days or months and nobody knows until the two teams meet, if in fact they do meet.

OVERALL CONCLUSION FROM ALL OF THE STATS ABOVE COMPARING 2015 AND 2016
Galax, at least on paper, is much more improved than last year. Riverheads, at least on paper, is slightly not as good, or decreased on paper compared to last year. Does the above mean that Galax is automatically crowned champions? Of course not. They may lose the first round by 30 pts or vice versa for Riverheads. We don't know, but at least statistically, you can see why the argument in favor of Galax winning another title and beating Riverheads again, if they do play, has some statistical-factual support. Again, paper and stats are one thing and on the field is another.
I am just telling you folks out East.......Galax is once again the real deal in 1A ball. Hurley, GW, and even Fort Chiswell, if they play again, is not going to beat them. They are also healthy again. and would have beat Fort Chiswell if healthy. As for the Graham loss, it did not matter.....healthy or not healthy, Graham was far better. I know Riverheads lost to Stuarts Draft in a nailbiter this year. I can tell you this, Graham and Galax was no nailbiter. Graham handled them, but again and with that written, I think Graham would easily handle Stuarts Draft if they played.

Last year has no bearing on this year. Their's and everyone else's teams changed and some are better and some are worse. I do not think this years Galax team could beat last years team, mainly because of the loss of Spurlin

Just wondering how many kids were hurt in the FC game? What positions?

I was willing to crown Galax the champs after the GW and Giles games. Then the game with Fort happened. I still think Galax is a contender and there were mitigating circumstances in that game, but there are several teams with a good shot at the title. I'll give credit to GW, they shook off their season opening butt whipping and have proceeded to steamroll everything in their path since. A Maroons-Maroon Tide rematch championship is entirely possible.

Last year has TREMENDOUS bearing on this year. Is last year a Predictor of this year's state champion? No, of course not if that is what you were referring to by "bearing." But, last year and this year regarding bearing matters because......if Galax had 50 seniors last year an no juniors, do you think that "has no bearing" for this year? Of course it would. The loss of Spurlin is being replaced by the emergence of Peoples. I Do think this year's Galax team would beat last year's team. Only my opinions. As for the stats I gave, there is some meaning. Sure, their opponents change and can be better or worse. I can tell you that Galax opponents this year are largely better. Narrows is better. FC is much better. Graham is far better. Giles, Bland, and Grayson are about the same. GW is far better. Overall, and I can not speak for Riverheads, but the level of competition for Galax this year is better than last year, yet the numbers for Galax are much better at this point going into the playoffs.

Also, winning a state title mentally prepared a team to be battle tested, or to know "how to win", and this is key for emerging players. They expect to win. A close win over Giles this year is an example of that. Again, is last year a Predictor of a state title for this year? No, it is not. Does a state title last year have any bearing on this year? Of course it does.

Were u willing to crown the four loss Galax team last year the state champions as they headed to the playoffs at 6 and 4? The answer is.....no., you were not.

Hurt feelings. They got the woodshed a$$ beating.
No hurt feelings here. I am a Giles fan. I was actually rooting for FC to beat Galax. I like FCs coach and know him. You and both know the outcome if the two meet up again in the playoffs. I would hope FC could get the W, but they won't.

I think he was implying that Galax had hurt feelings after they got whipped.

Well, if your right, Galax will be the champs. We will see in a few weeks. I dont think they will be

If Riverheads makes it to Salem , I will be shocked . I think this years team lacks the leadership it needs to finish . My guess is a SWVA team will take it all ! Hope I am wrong but thats the way I see it . Go Big Red !!!!!!!

No my friend. I am no computer, soothsayer, or robot.......in that I can predict the future. Galax may lose the first round by 30 points. My arguments for my first post was......Galax is better statistically this year than last year. Those are facts

My opinion is.........their is much data to support the OPINION that Galax should be considered a frontrunner for the state title. I did some facts in my first post to support that opinion.

There are no absolutes and at the end of the day, you know what they say about opinions and ahhholes, we all have one. That is what makes this fun. We have no clue until the games are played. Riverheads may win the title or FC lay the hammer on Galax long before any state title game. I do not predict the future. I just gave my opinion that at least on paper
.....again....on paper only, Galax looks pretty dang good. I respect any opinion contrary to mine which includes any opinion that Galax will not win another title, or that Riverheads will win it...etc.

If I could predict the future, I would be a multi millionaire and living in Tahiti. Well.....I am neither of the above, but I do have an ahhhole or opinion, and I love playoff time.

Galax will lose to fort you heard it here first.

Yeah yeah...you are posting that all over VA preps. I think everyone knows you think Fort is going to beat Galax
