Thank you @one man for stopping by the locker room and saying hi after the game. You are a class act all the way!
I was looking for you during pre-game, figured you were already in one of the boxes. When I saw you on the field near the end I made it a point to come shake hands at least. Wish we could have given you a better game overall but it wasn't meant to be.
Downfall of our team this year was tackling. More often than not, we are in the right position just couldn't bring guys down. Ramsey had 2 or 3 TD runs where he was untouched. We'll go back to the drawing board and get ready for 2018 season here in a few weeks.
To the other Salem fans. Some of you are terribly spoiled. Your DBs are better than you give credit. The scheme your staff put together was to take away the run at all cost. This allowed a lot of free space deep and we were able to exploit it. You won't see another offense like ours the rest of the year, so once you get back to playing spread and pro style teams, the responsibilities of your DBs will be more normal and you won't see too many guys roaming free deep.
I will say this Salem team is not as good as last two seasons for multiple reasons but still as tough an out as you'll find come playoff time. Ramsey is a monster. I will also agree with some of you spoiled guys, that the defense is the weakness but you held us to 69 yards on 30 carries. EC Glass held us to 252 rushing and Louisa held us to 238 rushing. Nobody else kept us under 375 on the ground. That in itself is remarkable for a "weak" defense.
Good Luck to the Spartans in their quest for 3 straight. Thoroughly enjoyed playing at Salem Stadium, hopefully we can have regular playoff meetings. Our program is still in infancy, but back to back 7 win seasons after 15 straight under .500 means a lot. We are proud of where we are going, Salem showed us that we still have a lot of work to put in to get there.
@Renaissance man makes an appearance! He's like the Caped Crusader!Facts, well written. Enjoy your posts, Your cousin has his hands full.
