John Marshall’s Schedule

124 points in a 32 minute game is INSANE! Just give them the trophy.
I would love to see Virginia do what New Jersey use to do with the Tournament of Champions. All the state champs put in a bracket to crown the best team in the state, both Public and Private. PVI v JM, Jordan Smith v Latrell Allmond. You could charge $50+ and it’d be a sellout.

At what point did VHSL change the rule that a high school coach couldn’t coach an AAU or travel team at the same time as they’re coaching high school team? Am I dreaming that or wasn’t there some sort of rule in place at one time about that.

He doesn’t coach any AAU team, he’s the CEO of Team Loaded. Think of it as Steve Jobs never worked in an Apple Store.

Why would this rule ever exist?
I’m presuming to keep a travel ball coach from creating an elite team at his or her own high school by having his players transfer there. A lot of travel teams are made up of players from different areas or schools. VHSL has a lot of dumb rules. One they’re considering at March meeting is if a player transfers , they are eligible for regular season play but will have to sit out of the playoffs.

It’s some very good hoops in C2. Watched Floyd County and Nelson County, both teams can hoop and you can tell those country boyz love the game and been playing with each other since they were jits. Life ain’t fair, but Marshall’s reign is the product of going 6 classes in every sport (of course football was broken up into 6 divisions). In the old system or even a 4 class system, Floyd, Nelson, Greensville, Graham, etc in basically any matchup, would a hell of a final.

1. "Life ain't fair", and doing a moral wrong aren't the same thing. When one does morally wrong, the words "life ain't fair" doesn't justify the moral wrong.

2. Marshall's reign is NOT directly the product of 6 classes. Marshall's reign is the product of committing a moral wrong as the Direct cause of the reign.

Quarter finals next Tuesday at Huguenot High School
JM Girls vs Stuart Draft @6:30PM
followed by the
JM Boys vs Central (Woodstock).

Man I ain’t smart or deep enough for you.

FACT: In 2013 (the last year of the 3 classification system ) when Ty White made the State Championship game and played Henrico, John Marshall had 363 students enrolled. NOW I’m no where as smart as you, but if Henrico had 1500 students then they’d had almost 5x more kids than John Marshall. I ain’t as smart as you but John Marshall played Triple A ball then. They continued to play up (they had single A numbers) and played C3 ball until 2020. John Marshall only won 1 state championship in C3 with the same coach and a way better cast of players.

I’ve never seen so many men be so emotional, talk morality and not even have any facts. Sucks that we know those good teams’ (Greensville, Floyd, Nelson, Graham, Central Woodstock, Lurray) fate but that’s on the VHSL.

Fuzzy math and delving into the weeds of irrelevant numbers can't play first fiddle to the overwhelming lead fiddle known as moral wrongs in the eyes of most.

Skipping the line at the pearly gates is a moral wrong. For anyone that attempts it,.let's hope they don't rationalize or excuse it by blaming Heaven for having 6 gates or by saying, "the Afterlife isn't fair."
🤣

I think you nailed it, it ultimately falls at the feet of the VHSL Sort of like the ridiculousness of having Class 1 & 2 wrestling championships at the same venue with wrestlers weighing in at 6:30am and still wrestling into the wee hours of the next day. If anything can be screwed up, the VHSL can do it.

The problem lies with the VHSL One issue is the city of Richmond allowing kids to attend the school of their choice. All other schools in the state have to adhere to having their athletes live in the "attendance zone" for that specific school. The other big issue is the transfer rule. Kids must move to the attendance zone with a parent or guardian to be eligible to play sports there. From the outside looking in, it looks awfully fishy that all of these kids are coming from all over the country to one school in Richmond, Virginia. Are these kids moving with a parent or guardian to the attendance zone? From the outside observer, it seems unlikely (not saying that the rules in place aren't being followed - just saying it seems unlikely by outside observers). It looks like there should be somebody at the VHSL looking into this situation and making sure that everything going on there is on the up and up. As far as the transfer rule and attendance zone issues are being followed, I believe it's on the athletic directors and school principal to verify this information. If all rules are being followed, it is still a pretty crappy situation and is very unfair to every 2A school in the state of Virginia not named John Marshall.

It's also just so different...one amazing thing about Virginia is how diverse it is (both demographically but also regionally). Richmond City kids ability to choose which school they can attend seems to be what's best for them, which is great. Meanwhile in much more rural areas, kids must attend the schools they are zoned for, and for some kids, the high school they are zoned for is already 25+ miles away and still the closest option. We had a player at Harrisonburg this year that moved into the city, played for Broadway last season and missed about three weeks of the season this year because he was under investigation for moving ten miles south into the city limits. Once he was cleared we had one week left in the regular season...the whole eligibility/transfer thing is just tough to relegate because some cities are different than others, and very different from the rural counties across the commonwealth.

On another note, and this has been said multiple times, but C2 I feel like is really wide open this year aside from JM. Lots of great teams I feel like could have a real shot to win C2 that didn't even make it out of their region tournaments this year. Just wish something would be changed, not JM's fault. Good luck to everyone.

If JM gives their kid the best chance to succeed and get a scholarship in basketball then what’s the big deal about a parent doing what they have to to send their kid? It’s high school basketball. Nobody in Hampton got mad when Roosevelt Wheeler left to go to JM, because everyone understood the opportunity Wheeler had to succeed.

Every school in 2A is being wronged....If a kid has that kind of talent, recruiters will find them. Are these kids getting nil money? And is it related to team Loaded? Is that being used to attract players? These are legitimate questions that need to be asked and looked into by the VHSL. I'm not saying any of this is happening, but why are all of these highly recruited players moving to Richmond? Surely, if the goal is to be recruited, there are plenty of other destinations.
