The marquee game of the Virginiapreps Classic featured state champion John Marshall and perennial playoff participant Landstown in the final game. It took almost a half for John Marshall to get their sights set but they overcame a 13 point deficit to defeat the Eagles 60-51. Greg Jones finished with 29 points and 14 rebounds to earn Player of the Game honors. Jeremy Carter-Sheppard added 16 points including four treys.
Amazingly, John Marshall trailed by only 11 points despite making only two field goals in the 1st half. The Justices shot 2 of 24 from the field. The teams combined for only 12 points in the first quarter. Landstown scored 18 points in the second quarter to take a 23-12 halftime lead.
The Justices came out of the locker room for the second half with their shooting game making seven 3-pointers and making 13 of 23 baskets. Jones was 4 of 5 from downtown and all his baskets seem to come at key points. R.J Nicholson opened the 2nd half with a basket to give Landstown their largest lead 25-12 but John Marshall used triples from Jones and Carter Sheppard to start a 13-0 run that closed the gap to three with 5:43 to go. The Justices finally took the lead after another three by Jones from the top of the key and a jumper by Jones made the score 34-32 late in the 3rd quarter. Jones ended the quarter with a deep three several feet behind the 3-point line that gave the Justices a 39-34 lead.
Landstown center and Radford commit Darius Bolstad made an inside bucket to pull Landstown to within one at 39-38 but Justice guard answered with a three to extend the lead back to 44-39. Jones and Nate Williams made enough free throws down the stretch to help John Marshall improve to 7-1.
Bolstad, led Landstown with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Eric Watson finished with 10 points and seven rebounds while point guard Tyriq Nady added 11 points and 6 assists.
