My heart says Tee Jay because they are bigger, stronger, faster but I have underestimated Kettle Run before. We played them in the state semifinals in 2022 and we had the bigger, stronger, faster team that year, but Kettle Run played better that night. I say all of that to say, I'm going with Tee Jay but wouldn't be surprised if KR got the win.

I have been very quiet for posting this season but since this might be the last game, I will jump in.

This 2024 KR team is like the 2022 team but without the Superstar WRs for the deep ball. Like all the Coach Porterfield teams, this team has terrific fundamentals and play very intelligent football. They do not look like a dominating team in person, but they just win on both sides of the ball.

KR has built an incredible football program over the past 8 years, The issue is we just don’t have the depth of superstars to run with some of these teams at the end of November and December.

I would give the edge to TJ on paper, but wouldn’t be surprised if my Cougars pulled a close upset.

TJ is fast and athletic with size. I picking them to play for the championship. It's been awhile since it was Jefferson - Huguenot - Wythe. If I'm not mistaken, I know when I played at Hopewell 82 they were good and went to the states. Good luck.

They were J-H-W from 1979 through 1985. You are starting to tell your age now!!!

I disagree about this team being the same as the 2022 team other than the dynamic WR Tapscott.

Both teams are well coached and have basically the same staff as they had in 2022 but this team does a whole lot more on offense then the 2022 team did. That team also used their big bruising QB to run the ball, this team has a QB that just sits back there with a clean pocket and absolutely dices teams up. Armstrong, Sherando, and Handley had no answers for his arm and the WRs are good enough and their TE is really a great player. They also run the ball with multiple backs from a ton of different looks. They were able to jump in and out of dozens of formations including ones that I had never seen this year and I have seen them a half dozen times. I don't think I can remember an offense that did this many things well.

Their QB is also special and they protect him. I know nothing about TJ besides the scores on maxpreps but I expect a high scoring game. Wouldn't bet against Kettle Run. Maybe the athletes of TJ are too much but thus far Kettle Run has answered the task against the other teams where people voiced those same concerns. As mentioned, everyone was picking Glass in 2022 and there was no doubt who the better team was that day. Dinwiddie overwhelmed Kettle Run in the state title game and it remains the only time that I have seen a healthy Kettle Run have no answers in the past 5 years.

I am hoping to make it out to the game but it might be too cold for me. Might be too good of a game to pass up though.

TeeJay sends a 5 or 6 man pressure every play and plays mostly man press all game. They definitely believe in their athletes making plays and playing fast and doesn't make it too complicated. Kettle Run may be able to get some big plays since TeeJay plays a very aggressive style of defense but TeeJay also will force Kettle Run into some hurried decisions. I think TeeJay probably has the best player with the Rashaud Cherry kid. Should be a good competitive game. I'll go TeeJay by 10.

I have a question.
Both TJ and Armstrong will be in Class 2 next year.
Who has the better football overall
Class 3 or Class 2?

Really I think it about even. Some of the top C3 teams have been a little down the last few years, Lake Taylor, hopewell, Norman and out west Northside, Magna Vista, and even James Monroe here in the northern part use to be a power team have been down for a while. So C2 is just as good. And I'm from the 804. TJ and Armstrong have been up the last couple of years in C3 but I think the competition in C2 will be just as tough for them. Especially in the playoffs.

Kettle Run pantsed Skyline from beginning to end. Skyline outgained TJ in the first half and were only down 7 at the break. So you would think this would be an easy pick for Kettle Run. NOT SO FAST, Skyline clearly was improving as the season went on, and Kettle Run had lots of problems with Armstrong, who seem similar to TJ, but not quite as good. So I think this is 50/50. If Kettle run can control the clock and limit TJs possessions, I think they can win. But give them too many possessions, they will score on enough house calls to win.

Were they on the 804 podcast? Gotta check it out on IG.
Yeah Lee Merry BallinVA

They said 5 teams have dropped them off their schedule in the future. These same teams used to make TJ their homecoming games when TJ wasn’t down. There coach had perfect line “it ain’t fun when the rabbit has the gun”

Said they remember things like Patrick Henry running the score up on them in 2012 and now they want off their schedule lol

To me, that’s an impossible question.
What’s a better vehicle, Chevy or Ford?
Better cola, Pepsi or Coke?
Better color, red or blue?

so then why have classes and why drop them down?
You didnt ask what level was stronger or more powerful. You asked which was better. I’ve been to tons of class 2, 3, & 4 games that were “better” than class 5 and 6 games.
I was assuming that you meant more entertaining or competitive, not more capable of winning games against equal competition. Sorry.

I still think they look the same.

That is the great thing. Coach Porterfield has built them into one of the best teams in the north over the last 5 years. 2 of the last 3 seasons making the Semis is amazing.

Comparisons of the 2022 team are agreed that Chumley could run the ball better, but he had as much arm talent as Mulhern does today. Also they both had the same Running back with Colton Quaker. He was a Sophomore in 2022 when they went to state in 22. They run the same offense with multiple looks depending on opponents. KR is coached extremely well and will always scheme well to meet any challenge. The 2nd half has been really good for KR because the team is able to figure out adjustments and the kids appear to believe in the changes.

My only worry is speed. If TJ is a ground and pound team, KR will stay in the game. If TJ is loaded with speed and this turns into a track meet, KR is going to have trouble.

Looking forward to this game.

I think this cougar team is better than the 2022 team. Hosting Lafayette is big too

I would have to agree with you.

I loved that 2022 team. I talked them up big time, all the way through until they met up with the Generals in the big game. That was a lot of humble pie to choke down.

We forget that the seniors this year were sophomores practicing and playing with that 2022 championship team. That brings a lot of credibility and experience for kids playing in the KR program year to year. KR is now 2 for 3 heading to states in the past 3 seasons.

Looking forward to the big game!
