KW should be the heavy favorite in this one. But KQ plays with confidence. No doubt that current KQ head coach and former KW head coach Dylan Dehart will be fired up for this one, especially after things turned out at KW. The KQ defense has been solid all year. They've only given up 46 points (53 if you count the suspended Essex game) They are definitely a scrappy bunch. But they have not come close to facing a team or an offense like that of KW. Surely they will focus on Demond Claiborne, the Wake Forest commit, who has 1400 yards rushing and 25 tds rushing and 27 total. But then you have qb Jayveon Robinson, who is starting to get D1 looks as well, and he has 860 yards rushing with 13 TDs. Start to key on the run game and Robinson, who has 11 TD passes thus far, can find a bevy of receivers such as Kavontay Hayes, Kaleb Shelton Tre Robinson, among others. The Cavs have definitely been battle tested. KQ will counter with do everything QB Malik Holmes along with the hard running of Kam Berry. When they go to the airwaves, look for 2nd team all state WR Jaden Stanley and Cameron Graham to be the primary targets. The key to this game will be the line play. KW has great size on both sides of the line. KQ has some decent size too, but nothing like what KW possesses. KQ will have to force turnovers and score off of them if they do.
I do look for KW to win, but so much credit has to be given to King and Queen as well. Just 3 years ago, they were 1-9 and broke a 28 game losing streak in that season. Since then, they've gone 8-3 in 2019 under former coach Kenny Waters, had an undefeated regular season and Region A runner up in the 2020 season, and are currently 8-0 in 2021 and have to be considered one of the favorites in Region 1A this season. Definitely not bad for a school of 180 students and the smallest football playing school in the state of Virginia.
In closing KQ hasn't beaten KW since 1990 and in my opinion, it would take a huge upset to end that on Friday night. This is a really good KQ team, arguably their best since the 1990 state championship team, but this is a KW team that also has one of, if not the best teams they've had in their storied history. It's definitely the first one with two D1 caliber athletes in the same backfield and in my opinion, Demond Claiborne just might be the best player to ever walk the halls of KW and that in itself says a lot. Good luck to both teams on Friday night. I have ties to both teams and most importantly, I want both teams to come out of this game healthy and make a playoff run in their respective divisions
