It took Riverheads all of 47 minutes (and remember they take a three-minute break between games!) to dismantle the Lady Dukes of Windsor tonight by scores of 25-0, 25-10, and 25-14. The Big Red will now make a return trip to Altavista Thursday night for the 1-A East Semi-finals with a state berth on the line.

Windsor served first in the opening set and sent the ball sailing a good 10 feet out of bounds for the first point of the night for RHS. The Gladiators then served an astonishing 24 points in a row to post the shut-out, a feat I personally had never seen in volleyball. The Dukes seemed nervous and intimidated and apparently just not prepared for Riverheads' brand of aggression.

However, to their credit, the visitors regained their composure and adjusted to the game quite a bit better in the remaining sets, and in fact even took early leads in both of them. RHS however re-assumed control and was never in any danger of letting the easy win slip away.

The Gladiators will hope to repeat last week's four-set win over Altavista when the teams clash again on Thursday. The loser will be finished for the season after that match and the winner will play in Saturday's regional championship game against the winner of the Mathews at Rappahannock County semi-final. More importantly Thursday's two winners will each advance to next week's state tournament to face the two teams that survive in 1-A West

Rappahannock Co. is the number one seed in the East and would host Saturday if they win Thursday, but a Mathews upset would move the regional finals to the home floor of the RHS/Altavista winner.
