Lancaster fans have been saying it for years, it was coaching. Not saying that Rice wasn’t a good coach, he just had trouble evolving with the game. Never looked at tape, never adjusted and scouted other teams. It was 4 counties at that Lancaster home scrimmage because they knew what time it was. Lancaster missed out on 2-3 state championships over ego and it wasn’t the kids. I have friend that was on the past championship team for Lancaster tell me and I quote..” Look at the Lancaster players as a Ferrari…having all that horsepower and speed doesn’t mean anything if the driver (the coach) can’t drive a stick “ I fell out my seat laughing but then I thought, mannnn I understand. Lancaster always been a powerhouse in basketball because those kids have been playing together since they could crawl. Every team Lancaster put out there had chemistry. Those 2 state championships was because of the hard work and dedication of outside mentors to the boys that worked with them everyday. One of those mentors is now the new head coach. Lancaster is finally playing up to their potential and it’s going to be an awesome year. As for Mathews, they are also well coached but Lancaster is just on a different level this year. That lost 2 years back hurt the boys and then the following year Covid so they sat out. They been waiting and the time is now.I have to admit I'm stunned by this margin of victory. Did Mathews graduate their 1,000 point scorer? And this Lancaster team is primarily their JV team from two years ago, correct?
