I think, except in very rare situations, you should play your starters for the complete first half. And then use your starters for the first offensive and defensive series In the third quarter. Then, and only then, do you liberally substitute in an effort to take your foot off the gas. That is fair to your starters, fair to your subs, and fair to your opponent.

This is in reference to a blowout game.

The flip side of reducing the playoffs to 6 is that you take away the opportunity of most seniors on the 7 and 8 seeds to have one last game. Like was said elsewhere in another thread, for the vast majority of kids, when their senior season ends, that’s it for football, for the rest of their lives. Is eliminating lopsided games the better answer?
Then why not have 9th and 10th in there as well to give those seniors a chance to play one more game?? Heck, let’s just let them all in!!

Do you recall that it was the top 16 teams in 2013, and maybe 2014?

Bingo @1MoreHokie, been saying it for years. I truly don't get it, but they make the playoffs yearly and made it to the semis once in ten years. Still can't figure out why they would schedule a Class 1 team.

I just don’t understand the logic!! It’s great to have the seniors for the 7th and 8th seed play but not for the rest?? At some point you gotta say, you don’t deserve to be in the playoffs, and more often than not, the 7th and 8th seeds have losing records. All that does is devalue the playoffs,

lol who's taking out starters after one quarter. No wonder EV can't do damage in the playoffs, they barely play during the season.
LCA only gave Gideon one carry on this past Friday. Not sure how much he played, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't play after the first quarter. He has typically played the first half, or first three quarters, in most of their blowouts; this last one was a bit different though.

After watching Eastern View last night, I would favor them against Courtland. Courtland isn't built to keep up with an offense like Eastern View even if they run the ball heavily like they did against King George.

I was impressed with their quarterback who can throw the ball at least 55 yards in the air. He's also a pocket passer. Eastern View should have beaten Spotsylvania 70-0. They won 49-7 despite dropping at least four passes including having a tipped pass picked off deep in Spotsylvania territory.

I will say that Spotsylvania's effort was nothing short of hot garbage so that didn't help things out. So the 35-0 loss to Courtland followed by their 49-7 loss last night isn't truly an apples-to-apples comparison as to who is really better. The only thing that helped out Spotsylvania was the fact that Eastern View got up 35-0 before Halftime and we had a glorious running clock in the Second Half to allow fans to go home early from the debacle. Spotsylvania visits King George in two weeks and I'm looking forward to the Knights' fifth running clock game so we can all have an early ride home.

As for their future matchup against King George, I would see Eastern View winning that game IF King George plays like they did against Courtland. King George has better overall athletes and maybe a little more size. I do like Eastern View's scheme better though as they are more balanced compared to King George who are dependent on athletes making big plays. However, if King George plays like we know they are capable of playing, I think they win by two scores. Eastern View wins by a score if they get a bit of help from King George. If Eastern View drops four passes like they did last night, they might get rolled though as King George is the type of team to make you pay for those mistakes.
I think Eastern View vs Courtland could be a toss up. Keep in mind that Courtland is a good enough running team that they chewed up clock and kept the explosive King George offense off the field. As a result they played King George pretty much even, it was a one TD game. The key, I think, will be the the Eastern View defense, not the offense. Can they stop Courtland from drives that last a whole quarter. Courtland had the ball first against King George and kept the ball almost the whole first quarter (over 10 minutes) on that one drive. That limits the offensive possessions. They have 3 good runners and the misdirection wing T offense. Any of the 3 can get the ball on any play. Have a good one!
