Leave it to a Riverheads fan

That's good stuff. I fully support good natured shenanigans like this, provided that they are not violent, destructive, racist, or vulgar.

I do too honestly! Just couldn't miss the chance for the jab at ol XCROSS lol

Would have been better if it was a Waynesboro fan seeing as thats who they were playing

RHS head man has made a A$$ of himself . Making a big deal out of nothing . I heard the kid was suspended for five days . I hope some kind of legal action is taken against the Lowe life. They need to send him to Lee since he loves them so much . He makes me sick !

Some people are just jerks when it comes to high school football. They should be banned for life from attending high school games.

Heck, I got taunted at Wm Campbell after the game last night.

Interesting to see such different reactions to this. I wasn't there and of course can only visualize what went on. So my first question would be what was the kid hoping to accomplish? Did he go LOOKING for trouble or did he honestly think he would be welcomed and that it would be treated as a friendly visit?

Once it developed into something potentially nasty, it sounds to me as if the adults mentioned in the story handled it properly by getting him out of the situation. As for the punishment, again it is hard to say, not knowing just how serious the situation was or was not. But on the surface, I don't have a problem with the suspension or the apology on the part of the principal.

I also think if the Gladiator headpiece was destroyed, which was the rumor at the game last night, then this kid should be held responsible for it. He was entrusted to take care of it in his capacity as a mascot and if he abused that responsibility, then there should be consequences. I heard a much higher value than some of you might think regarding the cost of it.

Again my opinion is based just on the picture I have in my mind, and since I doubt if any of us were really there (X Cross included), then that is all any of can base our opinions on. One thing is for sure....if he had not gone there, we would not be having this discussion.

The kid made a mistake . It took place in the city not at school . Charges should be brought against those who beat him up . The kid should be responsible for the mascot ! Mr. Riverheads is not the police . He needs to take a hike . No one likes the man anyway . The Lee people seem to like him so they can have him . Look at his past , nothing but a mess everywhere he has been . Maybe move him to the central office , I am sure he will be highly recommended !
The kid does not represent the school . What if JOE BLOW say 50 years old did the same thing with a mascot , would he also be punished buy school ? I don't think so !

This act was a good natured shenanigan, he ran thru w/mascot head on and yelled "go red pride". He did not harm anyone, good clean fun. But, it got ugly real quick when Lee students/football players body slammed him to the ground and continued to beat him! Lee students/football players were the ones to destroy the gladiator head. So, I'm confused as to why we are not discussing the other side of this story?! I agree this RHS student should be held accountable for his actions but why haven't these Lee students been punished? The scary part of this story is the Lee AD was present and witnessed the assault on the RHS student!

Once again, RHS has made news in a negative way and nothing about these Lee students.Lee High Glorified in the newspaper for winning a game after the night before they had assaulted a student from another school. There is something wrong with this story! The RHS student did not deserve to be beaten.

To make things worse, the RHS principal went to Lee High School, after suspending this student for 5 days, and apologized over the PA system and ended that with "Go Leeman". That is so embarrassing to so many of us in this gladiator family. The students are irate and disgusted with their principal, they feel he has betrayed them. Why didn't he go to that school and say, I have punished my student and now I want answers as to who beat him and destroyed the gladiator head?

A couple of years ago, Wilson students/football players hung several dummies with nooses from an overpass with RHS football # painted on chest. That did not make the newspaper and there were no suspensions given?! Their principal did not come to our school and apologize and we didn't expect him too! What is the difference?

This RHS student is a good kid that made a bad decision, but he didn't deserve what he got! I have heard the mother has went to both schools wanting answers and neither would cooperate, so with that being said, she felt the need to contact the authorities. I have heard and seen for myself several videos of the assault, so I don't think they will have a problem identifying those who took part in the beating.

Max Lowe has lost a lot of respect, not that he had much to begin with, but how this was handled on his part is inexcusable. It's as if he condoned this type of behavior from Lee.

Red-Raid:

Thanks for the amount of detail you provided. As I had said in my post, it was hard for those of us who were not there to visualize exactly what happened. If the reaction from the Lee students did in fact raise to the level of an actual assault, with injury, that would certainly paint a different picture. But the original story in the paper made it sound as if he was able to leave on his own.

I guess we will see if anything further develops.

So what proof that it was Wilson Football players do you have red raid? The same proof you guys "claimed to have" when your tennis court was vandalized and you blamed us only time find out it was your own students.

If you run through another schools pep rally what do you expect? While I don't wish injury on anyone and definitely don't wish assault, I definitely think if you want to put yourself in that situation then you deserve to get popped one good time (tackled not punched/kicked/assaulted; that's never okay!) I mean what did he think was going to happen? They were just going to laugh it off?

I do not agree with RHS suspending him though, an if he was assaulted as you say then proper measures should be taken.

This is stupid. This isn't news. This is a great over-reaction.
I don't believe this kid represents RHS and I don't think the assaulters represent Lee.

Yeah, Wilson supporters (who cares if it was football players or not) did stuff in the past... was that a big deal?

The only thing I really take away from this is that Lee Football must be relevant again if people feel they should interrupt their pep-rally. I didn't think that before this, but that is why people have done pranks to RHS in the past. They matter. Take it as a compliment and part of the territory and move on.

No Trevor you are always the one to get your pantys in a wad. You like to dish it out but can't take it.

If you want to put yourself in that situation then you deserved to get popped...tackled not punched/kicked, what's the difference? Watch the video he was body slammed. If this was a Wilson student you would not be saying that.

Hey look, I'm not justifying what he did, pretty ballsy though, but stupid decision on his part. This just went too far and he was hurt. We all were young once and I can say I've done some dumb stuff, we all have! Just wanted all to hear the whole story, it was more one sided.

I'm actually not really bothered by most things on here. Only once have I really let it bother me and that was a post XCROSS made last December. So enlighten me on what I can't take? Please.

Also if it was a Wilson student I would say the EXACT same thing. While I thought it's funny what he did, I also see him being body slammed as justifiable. Stupid is as stupid does.
I mean really what did the kid expect?

Trevor Trevor Trevor , Run your mouth like the front runner you are ! I am glad others on here see you for the weenee you are . Get ready , BIG RED is coming to fishersville next week . On your behave I think they will put 60 on you team . LMAO

Only time will tell my friend.

I can tell you the team from Greenville has only scored more than 28 points on us once in the past 10 years and that was in 2004. Also you have to go back to 2008 before either school won by more than 2 scores. So even in our worst years we have still competed well with your teams

But right now the focus at Wilson is on our more natural rival.

Also if you're going to take jabs or insults, at least spell the words right my good buddy :)

I say again, this is good stuff. Stealing mascots, crashing pep rallies, trolling the boards. This is a big part of why I love the sport: the rivalries. I've enjoyed following Trevor and the Reds go at each other, even before I decided to move to the area. I hope to run into you guys sometime.

I reluctantly agree with you Trevor as I don't think Riverheads or Wilson consider each other their natural rival. I would also agree Stuart's Draft is your more natural rival. I think Draft may be fast enough to get the edge which is what has hurt your team most of the year. We struggle at times with it too so the last game of the season should be a barn burner as well.

The Mascot incident is much ado about nothing. Poor decision by a young man that probably would do things different if given the option to have a do over.

Now I will echo what someone else stated that it only happens when you are relevant. We have had it happen before and probably will again. Well not at a pep rally cause that is well well beyond its usefulness and I can't remember when we had to get this team hype for a game by having the student body do this stuff.

To each their own, and next week we will invade the Hive to set things right in the world. I know we have argued this point before but I think you will see over the next two weeks who is more "hated" amongst the county schools. I know Draft doesn't like the Green team at all and it goes without saying how most of the Red fans feels about them. That leaves Gap and Fort and dare say there aren't any fans of the Green team there.

I have stated before that I am usually right at the 20yd line so anyone that wants to have a reasonable conversation about football, come find me. I am open to listening to anyone's opinion.

#RedPride

It's always strange to a Hornet of my advanced years to "hate" anybody other than Waynesboro!

As far as the Lee pep rally incident, it is making a mountain out of a molehill.

You know exactly where I stand! Come say hey in two weeks before the game!

Obguthr I am always at Bdubs throught the week! Or you can find me at the edge of the fence at Wilson! I love meeting you guys!

I REALLY dislike the red team but they aren't our natural rival. Draft will always be that. I think the rival with the red team comes from us being one of the only schools to always play them close. If you ask my father he will tell you Fort and Waynesboro are the two teams he disliked the most at Wilson, but for my generation Draft and Riverheads will always be the schools I dislike the most.
