Beamer, so did they bring cannon? Blow up helmet and smoke machine? You just said horse wasnt allowed.
Cannon wasn't allowed either but Lee did get to use the inflatable helmet.

Mountains out of mole hills...it's not messing cadence up.....other than teams that giles has beat on for years no one complains...we had a 5 year old kid come over n from graham and blow it after we scored...intrinsicreward and the other guy are just complaining because that's what they like to do....they'll do it until it's gone...and a piece of fun will go with it....I heard players from other teams talking about it and how they like what it does for the atmosphere...boo hoo...geeez....That was in direct response to the Giles train horn, which also has been very annoying and they have blown the whistle, this year, far more than you state above. I don't have any problem with it, my annoyance not withstanding, until they blow it after the opposing team offense breaks the huddle and begins cadence . Sometimes the train whistle blowers can't control themselves on big plays and use it as a 12th man on the field. The jugs and rocks were an attempt to "level the playing field".
Im on your side with this, but not to beat the topic up again on this thread. I know we spoke on it before. My biggest issue with horn is when they are blowing it to get advantage during cadence or breaking huddles. I also dont feel it should be used by fans! No way somebody should let a person bring in a horn with a battery, air pump. That is a bit much for a "fan" to have. What if everyone in giles had one? There has to be a line somewhere what someone can bring to a game as a fan. That jugs/rocks was in direct response to the Giles train horn which Glenvar and other teams have had to put up with for years....Granted..Part of the annoyance like gs89er said was because Giles won.
Giles whistleblowers have sounded the horn, this year, far more than you observed. I think it adds to the game and I don't have any problem with it, my annoyance not withstanding...UNLESS/UNTIL they blow it after the opposing team offense breaks the huddle and begins cadence which they did on crucial downs in the 4th quarter and on the final drive on every single down against Glenvar a few weeks ago. Given...most of the time they are respectful and I am sure they are good men but it was obvious that the train whistle blowers couldn't control themselves and tried to use it as a 12th man on the field. BTW...The jugs and rocks were an attempt to "level the playing field" a few years ago...I was there shaking two jugs and hope the Giles fans found them extremely annoying. lol
This is true Richlands! Not going to deny it. We do have fans that are a bit subtle with their cheering. The worse part about your observation is the fact that Friday's game is the loudest I have ever heard Appomattox cheer. LOLOne think I noticed at Appomattox was that both fan bases were VERY quiet during the game. The only real noise made was after a touchdown. It was the same at Wilson Memorial last year for the most part. Not sure if it's a central Va thing or what, but if Richlands ends up coming up to Appomattox, expect our fans to make all kinds of noise when our defense is on the field. We pride our 12th man and our boys feed off it. Air horns, bottles with beads in them, clappers, hands, voices, whatever it takes. We are loud. Just a heads up.
It was the Giles-Glenvar playoff game in 2011. I remember it well.It was a Giles-Glenvar game I was referring to. I hated those jugs and rocks.

I don't think many schools have problems with the visiting band playing. I have seen it go away in recent years and I think it's more due to band directors getting ready for Saturday competitions instead of home schools saying no.I dont sweat the band playing, they are kids and need exposure. They work hard to learn craft. Plus it lets fans compare home vs. Visitors band. Just not normal in this area for that to happen. Caught me by surprise.
Most teams in what was old single A football fell the same way...it's about hometown or county pride...why I love high-school football.....can't lie...we go on Fridays because there's not much else to do....guess that's the reason why we get a bit passionate sometimesRyan is right, we do follow our team no matter how far we have to travel, and we are loud, proud and do not apologize for it. We love our town, school, and football team, but like all fan bases, we do have a few fans that we are not proud of, but the majority are respectful of the other team and their fans, we just like to be loud !
A lot of it stems from the fact that where we live, there is not much else to do, so we live, eat and breathe Blue Tornado football !
Ryan can attest, most of the towns in our area are the same way, maybe not quite to the extent we are, but several are close !
Our fans certainly know when to turn it on. Big games like Union and Abingdon has massive crowds that were very active. By the same token, the Grundy game didn't need the fans help. It's great to see crowds come out for playoffs, and get into the game, with their accessories. Personally I not care much for it during regular season. To me playoffs are much more exciting. Win and move on, lose and go home.
Agreed MOJO!Bands, cowbells, people being loud ok, train horns, cannons, people riding horses, smoke entrances should be left at home. Even old Scam Cam newton feels that way he swiped a greenbay packers banner hanging in the panthers stadium this weekend! Lol.
That is wild! Yall got some great fan support down in Richlands. Yeah the jugs with rocks wont fly at Appomattox. I dont know how our administration is going to handle that though. I feel now with all yall doing it. That is not a level playing ground. Them things are loud.
That is spectacular! We tried to get tailgating up and going for 3 years in appo, but fans wouldnt get to game in time. I think its the beer thing, because many will have "get togethers" before the game.Being from SWVA, I am used to seeing those types of crowds during the playoffs......
When I moved to Farmville back in the late 90's and went to a couple of playoff games down that way, I was in shock that it wasn't like that everywhere.
Now that I'm back in SWVA, I see just how special we have it.
You don't see too many 10,000 fan plus games like the Graham vs. Bluefield game either. (over 12,000 this year).
Richlands games have produced games in the thousands as well....and that is in the regular season.....
And this was at the first game of the year...Graham vs. Bluefield. In excess of 10,000 fans. This video is 6 years old....tailgating has grown tremendously at this game since then. In the video, you only see a portion of all of the tailgating.......parking lot is now full of tents, tailgating, bouncy houses, free food give aways, class reunions, etc.....and oh yeah.....politicians.
Football is not just somewhere to go on a friday night in SWVA, it is a way of life....the communities take pride in their teams and show up in force to support them.

The playoffs are all turn it on type of games.
It's would be best to get just as loud as tem...administration should let it be...let the fans be as loud as they can....make a fun atmosphere...some schools just have a great fan base...and they are usually in the thick of it year in and year out....couple years back Richlands had an ok team...came to giles and got beat pretty handily...but they came...and they stayed till the clock ticked zero...that's what a great fan base does....the field is the same size as the big boys....but the stands aren't....kinda nice to give the players that don't go to the net level that feeling of the big time...99% play their last game in high school. ..more noise...more atmosphere...more memories....just u opinion...I have talked to former players from all around...and the schools that have the great fan bases that rock the house are remembered and appreciatedThat is wild! Graham and Bluefield play at a city stadium, so it's off of school grounds...and yes, people drink in the parking lot at the tailgating. Personally, I don't think the drinking should be allowed at a high school event, but it is what it is. Half of them wouldn't show up for tailgating if they couldn't drink, I suppose. That is spectacular! We tried to get tailgating up and going for 3 years in appo, but fans wouldnt get to game in time. I think its the beer thing, because many will have "get togethers" before the game.
