Two young teams went at it at the Louisa Middle School practice field with a good crowd watching, but one of those teams almost looked like veterans: the Lions. With three starting offensive linemen out (should all play next week), the starters still moved the ball nearly at will (besides some botched snaps) and scored on each 10-play series. The defense was stifling, but I don't know if they were that good or Cave Spring's offense was that bad. I'll see next week. A lot of those little things I said last week that Louisa's defense needs to work on were much improved. They held the CS first team to one legitimate first down, with a couple of others aided by penalties. CS's RB's had nowhere to run, their QB had pressure in his face every other play, and when he did get a pass off, they were nearly all incomplete. CS's defense was okay at times but was mostly hapless.
Another weapon emerged for the Lions, junior receiver Kobe Washington. With Washington on one side of the field and Marquis Lee on the other, they will be a problem for opposing defenses and will be fun to watch. They are mirror images of each other. Lee caught the 70-yard touchdown against Bird last week, and Washington caught a 50+ yard completion and 30+ yard touchdown today. With both kids at 6' 2", Louisa hasn't had a receiver duo that can go up over defenders and catch everything thrown their way like these two since... ever. LOL.
Overall Louisa was just too fast, strong and athletic for the Knights, a 5-5 team as Mike Salem posted before.
