The first match up between these two teams drew a large crowd at Bulldog Field for Luray's Homecoming game. The Bulldogs would come out of this game with a 42-33 victory over the (at the time) undefeated Leemen. This time the Bulldogs will travel for the Regional Championship game in Staunton on Friday night.

Thoughts and predictions on the outcome???

35-14 Lee. Different team than earlier in the season. The turnovers shouldn’t be there so the short field that Luray had an advantage on early in the first matchup won’t be there. That said I wouldn’t be but so surprised to see it closer but Lee will be the winner when the clock hits :00.

A lot of times in a rematch, it is a popular belief that the losing team actually has an advantage going into the rematch. I don't buy it for this instance as Luray has already shown that they can effectively prepare for a rematch, as evidenced in their 2 victories over East Rockingham this year; and this is their 3rd week of preparation for the Leemen (they had a bye week before facing Lee the first time), so from a preparation standpoint, they should be more prepared for Lee than any team they've faced.

In the first match-up, Luray whipped Lee pretty good in every facet of the game. They had long/grueling/smashmouth drives, as well as quick/big play scoring drives, they had success on special teams, they forced turnovers in the form of interceptions and sack/fumbles, physically dominated, and while Lee put up some points, the Leemen got smacked around and played shell shocked for parts of the game.

There's more at stake this go round and the Leemen have actually played a lot better since being beaten by Luray. Hopefully that trend of improvement can continue this week, but Luray is a very difficult matchup for this year's Lee team, as they are so physical, athletic, and well coached. Lee played exceptionally well last week in the victory over Central. I knew Lee could possibly upset Central, but I didn't think they would be able to defeat them by that kind of margin as I thought Central was one of the better teams in this whole playoff and would go toe to toe with the best, based on the film I got to see. I think they were a better team than the outcome would have you believe, it just was somewhat of an off night for them, but the Leemen deserve some credit for sure as they executed a great gameplan.

I'm not going to make a prediction this week, but I think either team is capable of winning, although one thing's for sure: I'd really like this one to go in favor of the Leemen

The eye test is what I’m going off of Riverheads wore lurays offensive and defensive lines out not so much in lee game

I agree completely that using Riverheads' games is not a fair comparison. Luray had to deal with Jenkins' absence on the shortest possible notice and considering what he does for the team, they were lucky they kept it as close as they did.

On the other hand, Lee's win over Riverheads was complete domination, mainly because they played a turnover free game. So I say Lee wins this one if they can keep the miscues to a minimum. But if Luray's physicality can control the game and force them into mistakes, then the Dogs could win it.

Just to say something, I will go with Lee 35-21, but it could go in either direction....a bigger win for them or a win for the Dogs. As I said in the thread that I started a few days ago, it is a shame they have to play each other this early.

The morning after the victory over Clarke, the Luray head coach ran a 5K. Everybody along the route was congratulating him on the victory as he passed by.

Luray has been the underdogs all year, picked to finish in the middle of their conference not expected to reach this game, but the kids play hard and they're not afraid of the moment,Go Dogs.

Lee by 7. Luray is still very dangerous, but Lee won't make the mistakes they did the first time. This will be the classic contest of finesse vs. smashmouth. Best matchup in the state, IMO, although Louisa at Dinwiddie is very compelling.

I hope you are wrong, honestly if Lee's defense can't get off the field the Bulldogs will be OK.Not saying they will win but it will be a nail biter.

85 yards after a Lee fumble is not a short field in any league.

Fair enough but wasn’t there an interception or fumble at or around the 35-40 that turned to points as well? I might be confused so don’t shoot me. I was listening to that game while traveling.
