I actually drove down from DC to see them. After reading and watching video I wanted to see them play. I think this is a good thing for our state. I don't think Phoebus was ever favored to win this game.Guess you know who magna vista is now
It is definitely "nestled in the woods!" To Magna Vista was probably my most hated bus ride during my playing days. I played at Heritage (Lynchburg) so it wasn't terribly far but it wasn't a very scenic ride so it always seemed so much longer than what it was.Lol hrsepasture that be the one, at least I heard there was a high school in that area nestled down in the woods somewhere, no ones ever seen it, real mysterious place
It can be a difficult place to play. We played them in "The Hole" twice the same year, once in the regular season and once in the State-semis. We didn't fair too well in the regular season match but we were able to take care of business in the state-semis but not without overcoming a hostile environment. And I hear "The Hole" is not a very accommodating place for the visiting team or their fans to get down to.
Yep that's it! I know we won by three, I can't remember if it was 31-28 or 30-27 either way it was a battle! That game was the real championship that year. We beat Lafayette in the championship 34-7, not much of a game at all. One of my old coaches and I were just reminiscing a few days ago about the snow piles. You guys did as best you could clearing the field but it was a mess to play on lol...nothing but mud. I wouldn't change it for the world. That game was probably one of the funnest games I have ever been a part of as a high school or college player and now that I coach football, it still ranks up there.Remember the play-off game that year well Vol. Like 31-28 wasn't it. Y'all got on top early and MV came back but couldn't pull it off. Can remember it so well because we spent all night getting snow and ice off the field. If you got knocked out of bounds you went into huge snow piles. I remember y'all went on to beat whoever the next week really bad in the championship game. There was alot of talent on the field that day in "The Hole"

Yea it was freezing that day. Thankfully, I was playing the entire game so I stayed pretty warm from chasing Jumper and Hairston around all dayYes, I remember this game very well...I was a sophomore standing in those mounds of snow that was pushed off the field the night before. My dad was one of the many who came out and worked like mad to get the field ready for play. My feet were frozen lol...

I agree! That MV was loaded! I played guard and MLB so I was 1 on 1 with Jumper and Korey Robertson all day! Robertson was by far the best DL we faced all year. I'm still amazed at how quick he was even though he was almost 300lbs. The other lineman were not bad either. They all were huge! I was the 2nd biggest starter and I was only 6'2 240lbs! I say only because the MV line easily averaged 6'3 280lbs!That was the MV team that had to vacate all their wins due to the ineligible player. IMO, that was about as talented a team that MV has ever put on the field. Quite a few of those guys went on to play at the next level. While it's a totally different style of offense, the talent level across the board between that team and the one playing this Saturday is very similar. Jumper was a BEAST!
