Magna Vista vs Single Wing

I think SR will get some yards, but i dont think it will be enough to keep up with MV offense. They will have to many weapons and speed for SR defense. If scales and brunson aren't in the game it may be tough to stop SR. I noticed they didn't play much in the 2nd half against Brookville. Was that injury related or just favero giving them rest? The thing with MV defense, the secondary can tackle just as good as the linebackers so it may be tough to get the run going for SR. But like every other game the guys on the field still have to execute.

I think that SR will get a few yards because they tend to stick to their ground and pound game plan, but I don't think that the Blue Funk defense will have much of a problem, they tend to be pretty good against the run. In regards to Brunson and Scales, I think that with the game in hand, Brunson was getting rest since he was back from injury and Scales resting due to emotions getting very high. I love Scales energy but at that point in the game, I think it was best for him to be out. I think that the MV offense will score at will Friday night, 30 plus, and that the defense will hold SR to no more then 14 points. Go Warriors!!!

I think #9 scales got a unsportsmanlike penalty, Faverro took him out because if you get 2 you can't play next week, unfortunately he must not be able to shut up, Brunson still has ankle injury. MV will need a good week at practice to adjust to the single wing. SR will pull there lineman and run misdirection, something they really haven't seen. I think SR will eat a lot of clock with there offense so MV needs to score early and quickly. MV by 2 tds

Shades you are right. This will be a running attack that MV hasn't seen before. Got to play good sound D up front; read your keys and play solid assignment football. MV used to scrimmage Giles back in the day, who runs the single wing and runs it very good, and its a thing of beauty when run right. Going to have to be solid on D and also put points on the board. Turnovers and giving them a short field to work with could be a recipe for disaster for the Warriors.

Defending the wing can be extremely difficult for a well coached team. It's one of the few offenses that can take all the reads you have learned thru the year and turn them on its side. Having that extra blocker allows for influence pulls i.e. Widen you with a reach then getting trapped and squeezing a down block and then getting reached. MV is a well coached team and has more talent than SR but the wing can be a great equalizer if it's run right and it is run right at SR.

I agree Hoosier, whenever your playing against something you haven't seen its gonna take time to adjust. Can you be ready for single wing in one week of practice if you haven't seen it all year? I don't think so but SR will be facing a fast and very athletic defense with a lot of talent, not to mention SR still has to play defense against a you guessed it , fast and athletic offense. It should be a good football game.

I think this will be closer than expected though MV will get the win. SR has some big corn fed boys who will pound you all night. That RB they have is the real deal and he means to them what Jaq means to MV. 2 very different running styles, but two great players. Staunton River hung with JF for the first half but speed got the best of them. Should be a good one.

I've been following these boards for the past couple years and figured I would finally post a comment or two. I was at the SR v WA game this past Friday, and let me just tell you: Do Not Overlook Staunton River. Their lead running back (Overstreet #24) is a man-child that not only has size but can also surprise you with his speed. He is just a sophomore, which gives SR quite a bit to look forward to over the next couple years. I have seen SR play twice this year, and I gotta say I love that smash-mouth football, but I also have seen Magna Vista, and I feel MV will be too much for SR in the end. The caliber of overall athleticism for MV will be the difference in the game, and while it may take a bit for the "Blue Funk" defense to adjust to something they've not seen all year, they do a great job of making adjustments throughout the game and will find a way to make stops.

I can tell you this much, SR is a confident team from what I saw Friday night in Crozet. One thing they will need to remember though is Magna Vista is not the soft defense that Western Albemarle put on the field last week. Too bad this game isn't on Saturday, or I would be making a trip back to "The Hole" again for this one!

MV's D will bend but not break. I think they will get pounded for 4-5 yards all day, but will not give up the big play that Staunton River is always capable of making.

With teams that run the ball well like SR, Giles or W&L in ODAC football, the opposing team cannot afford turnovers. MV will have to make sure to take care of the ball like the precious gem it is. I saw the Warriors in last year's final and they do return a lot of skill players.

Have not seen SR in person, but as stated earlier, they did hang with JF for a half. MV probably has a better team but they will need to execute well to win. I have a feeling that MV will have fewer possessions than they do in most games....take care of the ball and they should win.

SR is a good team.....no way they would still be playing if they weren't. Good luck to both teams and hope that everyone has safe travels to and from the game.
