Any update on if they've named a coach yet? Seems like it's been open for quite some time and haven't heard any names or updates.

Hope Coach Martin can get the numbers up. The previous coach had made a lot of progress at the jv and middle school as far as participation goes so hopefully Martin can build on this. Last year was a perfect storm as far as numbers go. With a small senior class, injuries and other factors the numbers were terrible. As far as bball players, they are encouraged to come out and there will be a few playing this year.
Martinsville needs to get out of the Piedmont district. The Dogwood would make more sense with schools like Dan River, Chatham, Nelson Co., schools closer to their size instead of playing GW, Halifax, Tunstall....
Not their choice. They are where the vhsl put them. They do the best they can with what they got. Ant, dont know the specific dates but they play Morehead, Galax, Dan River, Chatham I believe and then the district teams Bassett, MV, Tunstall, Halifax, GW and Patrick Co.
Thing is football, baseball and softball are the only sports that Martinsville are not competitive in. Moving to the Dogwood isn’t going to make a difference when they beat/are very competitive with GW, Franklin County and Halifax. Just like the talk of GW going to the Seminole. It wouldn’t work when only the boys basketball team and football teams would be the only sports benefitting from the move. Their other sports struggle and may win 5 games combined all year.
