Monticello/Heritage (Lynchburg) benefit game

It was a good football game. Both teams displayed quite a bit of speed and athleticism and both defenses were flying around making big hits and plays. The offenses settled in the second and third quarters and both made several quality drives to result in points. If you like big plays, there were a few of those as well. Both sides hit big pass plays against man coverage to score! I hope these teams meet in the playoffs (if we get there, course... horse and carts etc) It would be a lot of fun "deciding" this outcome for real! Both teams played hard, hit each other hard, and respected each other on the field and at the meal afterwards. A lot of good things were executed and there a good coaching points for both to improve. Of course staying healthy is the key.
No, both sides used the 4th quarter to get work for the 2s and 3s. Both sets of 2s and 3s were pretty evenly matched as well. The score was 14-14 before the starters left the game. Back-ups didn't score, although both sides moved the ball a little bit before the respective defenses stiffened up.
It was a good game, I expect both squads to be in the playoffs. Depending on how their respective years go (healthwise) will determine how deep they go. A lot of quality athletes on the field, and young one too (for both sides!)
Don't get me wrong, there is plenty that both sides need to work on before we get close to the playoffs, but both look to be making good strides as the pre-season comes to a close.
