First off I'll say these are only my thoughts and predictions. Feel free to discuss but do so in a respectful manner.

1A West:

#1 Galax vs. #8 J.I. Burton
Rematch of a 3rd round matchup from last year. JIB has turned things around after a slow start but they didn't matchup well with the Tide last year and I think this year behind Peoples and Brown it will be more of the same.
Galax 44
JIB 12

#4 Fort Chiswell vs. #5 Chilhowie
Last year these two only combined for 2 wins but both have righted the ship this year. FC shocked the state earlier in the year with a win over Galax and a win here could setup a rematch. Chilhowie has put up points this year but hasn't always stopped the better teams on their schedule. I think that could be the difference here.
FC 38
Chilhowie 20

#3 Hurley vs #6 Parry McCluer
It almost seems unfair that two teams with a combined one loss meet in the second round. I've been very high on both teams this year. The offenses will get a lot of the talk in this one with Justice, Lester and Tester of Hurley and Cook, Nelson and Dawson of PM. Ultimately I think it will be a defensive play that wins this one.
PM 35
Hurley 28

#2 George Wythe vs #7 Patrick Henry

A rematch from a few weeks ago that GW won 42-0. In that game star PH back Dakota Humphrey left early with an injury. He will be back for this one but he will need help if the Rebels are to win. They will play hard but in the end Beamer,Owens, Horton, Moss and company will be too much
GW 45
PH 14

1A East

#1 Sussex vs #9 Luray.
The Tigers are undefeated and many think they are the team to beat. The Tigers are physical and fast on defense. But they can't afford to look past a Luray team who has given Essex fits in previous playoffs. Luray will look to control the clock and take their time on offense. In the end though the Tigers speed will be too much.
Sussex 30
Luray 14

#4 Lunenburg vs #5 Altavista
A rematch of week 1 where the Colonels won 33-19. This time though they are the visitors. Both teams have had quality losses and both are playing with a lot of confidence at the moment and both think they could defeat Sussex if they get the chance. So which team wins here?
Altavista 27
Lunenburg 20

#3 Colonial Beach vs #11 Charles City
A rematch of an early season meeting that CB won 20-14. CB is on a 7 game winning streak while CC is on a 6 game streak. CC is playing with tons of confidence after storming back from 22-0 down to defeat Franklin last Friday. The Drifters are physical on defense and methodical on offense with the single wing. This game could go either way but in the end I think CB ends the run for CC
CB 28
CC 16

#2 Riverheads vs #7 Essex
The game many have wanted to see for years is only a few days away. Riverheads however has had the better season on paper while Essex comes in at 6-5. However 4 of the losses came to teams from higher levels and their 1A loss to CB was played without star defensive player Adarious Jones. In recent weeks they've found their offensive identity and have scored in bunches. Riverheads no doubt will look to control the clock behind Schaeffer, Hostetler and crew. Essex has to force turnovers and put the Gladiators in a position where they have to play catch up. This one despite the records I believe will be a good one. I'm going with my gut feeling on this one.
Essex 20 Riverheads 17

Good luck to all the teams this weekend and prayers for safe travels to all teams and their fans and that all players remain injury free

Definitely is some very good games for just being the second round. Some really good teams will be going home after this weekend.

In one of the threads on here, someone posted that Essex's best player got hurt last week and will be out this week. Any truth to that?

Essex did have a key player get hurt on Friday. Not the best player on the team but a key component nonetheless. Haven't heard the latest on his status for Friday as of yet. However Essex has battled the injury bug all year and has always had other guys step in. A couple of games i believe they were without 4 starters on defense yet the guys who filled in did just fine. Essex subs in and out a lot anyways to keep guys fresh. Other guys will have to step up Friday night but it's something they've pretty much had to do all year anyways

Sub depth is key to a sustainable playoff run. If you are relying on 11-15 players you will be beat by teams who have 25+ who actually play. Yeah the game may be close for a half but when the depth catches up its over.

Essex only has 3 or 4 that go both ways and even those guys are getting subbed in so guys are usually fresh

Special teams, offense and defense. He never came off the field. One of the top, if not the top, leaders of yards from scrimmage, one of the leaders in tackles plus his special teams contributions. I am not saying that they don't have guys ready to step up, but no doubt it is a huge hit to the Trojans. He missed all of the playoffs last season (his sophomore year) when he was the leader in receptions and interceptions. I just feel bad for the guy, but I know he will bounce back. Keep working hard Trojans! What is the predicted attendance for this game? Just an educated guess. I doubt Essex will travel but so much, so mainly just Riverheads fans and neutral observers.

Essex has lived by the next man up philosophy all year and have had a lot of guys who have stepped up and hopefully that will be the case this week as well. It will take a total team effort no matter what as Riverheads is obviously a very good team and one of the programs i personally have great respect for

My guess would be in the neighborhood of 2,000 attendance for Essex @ Riverheads.

Hey guys, I have been with Essex ever since Essextrogan1 mentioned the nick name
Of one of their players, then showed us all some tape on " Big Nasty ", Essex 400 lb
DT. The young man can play the game.
Essex Trojan1, I am still with you, and those Trojans. Have a good game, and I hope
Both teams stay injury free.

Riverheads will end up winning by a couple scores. Close in the beginning, Riverheads will pull away in the 2nd half.

More like 6'3" 378lbs. Lol. The 6'1" 400+ D lineman quit right before game 4. Not sure why.

No he did not but what I find amusing is that I've never heard this young man referred to as Big Nasty although I'm not at practice or around his any of his personal contacts.

Well you need to talk to Essex Trojan1 or go back and look at that video of
Big Nasty. It was probably in August. Not sure of the date, but the video is worth
Watching. Never seen a big guy like that move so well.
The guy is a Beast!

Big Nasty was a name given to him in youth football when he played in KW. A lot of people up there still call him that. I see it on Facebook all the time

Did Big Nasty quit?
No... He's still there. He's the 378 pounder. The one that was 440ish quit. Just as kwhs95fan said, I saw it on Facebook as well. I think it was a cousin of his in King William that called him that in a post.
