First - great seasons by both teams. Getting to a chip game is not an easy feat. Roughly 90% of HS football players don't even get to the big game so Varina has no reason to hang their heads. Now.....
1) Excellent halftime adjustments by Blunt and crew. It seemed like Phoebus was feeling Varina out in the first half then proceeded to attack the weaknesses they observed in the first half, in the second half.
2) Phoebus had a clear advantage in the trenches on both sides. Varina's run game was relatively non-existent and Wyche spent a good amount of time on the run when he dropped back to pass. Varina’s pass rush was legit but they couldn't do much about the Phoebus run game in the second half.
3) Penalties on Varina were obviously difference makers (not THE difference makers though). I won't go much into that but discipline was clearly lacking.
4) There is something to be said about experience. Varina came out on bully mode and quickly found out that was not a good gameplan. The Ireland Street boys didn't take that bait. If anything, they used it against the Blue Devils.
5) NFHS was completely outta pocket and anyone that watched it on TV knows why.
6) @BoKnowsSports lied to me once again and I don't appreciate it one iota. Last time it was about Huguenot; this time about D1 Carter. Shame on you, bro.
