Yall need to stop the Shenanigans got Riverheads @ #2 I seen them Play Lord Botetourt and I've seen Essex play its not even close they not in the same book let alone chapter. Red machine by 35 points in the championship game.
That'll all play out in the playoffs. This is based on week to week. If an unranked team beats the #1 ranked team in college football, do they automatically get ranked ahead of the team they beat and move to #1? No they don't. Essex is currently undefeated and RH has one loss. When they lost, I bumped Essex ahead of them. I've also seen both teams play multiple times and in years past I'd agree thar RH was in a different league, but if they happen to meet in the state semifinals and that's definitely not a given, then I think it'll be a close game regardless of who wins. Feel free to share your top 10 though. It's all in fun anyways

Which game did you see Essex play?

Essex will have to bring their A game against Riverheads that's no question but it seems like those Sussex or Franklin fans have it out for essex, maybe because they can't beat them.

I think that rhs will have to bring there A game as well, young and small on defense and playing better, CCC is getting healthy and not playing on defense yet, but getting in more touches, most people are all in on Essex, so if both teams make it to the semifinals which is aways off it will be a slobber nocker of a game, a must see game, if rhs wins the last 2 games I think they will have home field, GO BIG RED

In my opinion if Cayden cash and Luke Bryant Both stay healthy I see no one beating riverheads this year… There Chemistry is unmatched Both over 6 ft tall 200 pounds. These guys have to be one of if not the best running back duo in the state !

Essex is the real deal from what I hear . They have played nobody and will play nobody to the end of the regular season . Really won't know how good they are until they go up against a quality opponent . My guess is that may be Riverheads ? Sometimes they loose their composure when they get smacked in the mouth . Might be different this season .

They play teams with some wins but the Shen. D is weak . Wilson , Fort , Draft and Staunton are better than most tidewater teams or NND teams . jmo

Riverheads moving to 2A next season . We will see how they do should they make the playoffs . It won't be easy for them . The key will be like it is with most teams , how healthy can they stay all season long ?

You will see this team steadily decline, like Galax, WC, Gretna and so many others after losing their championship coach.

If Essex plays Riverheads anywhere in the East, Essex wins.

If Essex plays Riverheads at Riverheads, Riverheads wins.

Galax has played in state championship every year since Dixon left...not saying they will make it this year but I do know that some changes have now been made on the offensive side of the ball so we'll see if that light's a fire in them.

Home field is an advantage but championship teams can win on the road too. Not sure I agree with these statements although I do agree that Essex is a sledgehammer this year. I think Gap and Lunenburg have something to say about who represents region B as well so we will see how it plays out.

Home field is nice, especially since u don't have the long drive and ride on the bus, so if rhs and if Essex gets to the semifinals that is a long ride for either team close to 3 hrs, so win the last 2 and get home field advantage, and see what happens come playoff time, should be some good games, GO BIG RED

Galax is no where near the team they were under Dixon. They played in the state championship because they had zero competition to get there the last few years

Zero competition? They still played the big red machine pretty tough for a half anyway last year, not bad for a team that sucked. BTW what powerhouse's did y'all play in the playoffs to get there?

Apparently the Shenandoah is the toughest district in the state.
There is parity in the Shenandoah beyond the Red Team, but I don't know how well it stacks up against the rest of the state, especially in the higher classes. I'm actually more intrigued by a Gap-Central matchup than Essex-Riverheads. Both will be fun.

Didnt say yall sucked, never said Riv was a powerhouse. I simply stated Galax is not the team today as they were under Dixon. Youre the one who said well they played in the state championship, I said they had no competition to get there. I never said anything about Riv. But I guarantee if Dixon were the coach the championship games would have been closer.

Maybe would've been closer, you said we had no competition and I asked who the powerhouse teams y'all played in the playoffs to get there? Not so sure y'all's path was that much tougher is what I was saying

Red Team plays at a different level than the rest of the 1A . That will change only if the rest pick up their game. Not saying the Red Team can't be beat on a given night, but until the post season starts it's unlikely. jmo

This thread has taken a crazy turn. IMO there are half a dozen teams that have a legitimate shot at hoisting the trophy in Salem. I would argue in years past there were maybe 4 and if a gun was at my head truthfully only 3 that had enough to win it. That is not the case this year but time will tell who has all the pieces in place in the playoffs. I have seen extremely good teams fizzle in the playoffs so even good teams get bounced at times.

As for the ‘doah being a dominant district, every area thinks they are the local embodiment of Texas football. The reality is that several groups across the state claim that crap and it always amuses me. The 757 was the recruiting hot bed for years and still is but that doesn’t mean thats the only place good football is played. I lived in South Carolina for a few years and watched D1 talent that went to Clemson during their recent success and there were definitely teams in Va that could have beat the brakes off of them. All that mess is subjective until a team straps it up and plays.

Not trying to put anyone down, but overall I would say A/B is tougher to get thru than C/D over the last few years. IMO Essex wins the state championship the last few years if they could have gotten there.

No one can deny they're the kings of class one football until they get knocked by a class one team. I for one am looking forward to them playing in class 2 where they will have better competition later in the playoffs and for the record I still think they will be highly competitive

Other than Essex I don't know if any would be that much tougher but I also don't get to see them play on a regular basis. Essex seems to always have tons of talent and yes there is good possibility they would have one a championship if they had got there but I'm not sure they win it every year like Riverheads

I can name a few from each of the past few years that would have competed with Galax had they made it to Salem. And I am in no way an apologist for Region A or B, but I have a healthy respect for several of their programs and supporters and will say that there is usually a twinge of disrespect when most teams east of Lynchburg are mentioned on the board. Just like I would argue that there are several from Region C and D that would have been competitive had they reached Salem.

Good luck to all of these young man as many will play their last few games of football in the coming weeks. We should be thanking them for allowing us to watch the journey.

2A Playoffs will be a challenge for the Red Team next season due to depth on the bench . Larger schools have a second team that in most cases provides larger more athletic players . Staying healthy is key to their success . jmo

Toughest for 1A schools, not so much for 2A, and not very for 3A. All football related. I don't think any state football championships have been claimed from the Shenandoah district outside of 1A or the old single A. Draft, Staunton, and Wilson I think have made it to the 2A championship game but lost.

1A playoffs across ALL sports are really weak until state semifinal unless something abnormal happens......

The top 2-3 teams in 1A can play at the top 2A level but after that the level of play drastically decreases.
