Game Recap Nansemond River defeats Western Branch

Jarrid Johnson and Johnny Mayer each hit 2-run homeruns and pitcher Mike Blanchard pitched a complete game in winning his 3rd game on the season to help Nansemond River to a 8-2 win over Western Branch. The Warriors got it done on the mound and at the plate collecting 11 hits while limiting Western Branch to only two hits.

Blanchard, who is headed to Old Dominion, tossed a 2-hitter while allowed only one earned run and retiring the first 11 Bruin hitters. He recording six strikeouts in the 1st five innings and at one point he struck out four straight batters.

Johnson was the Warriors offensive star contributing to a run in each of his plate appearances. Jarrid finished the afternoon going 4 of 4 from the plate with four RBI and a homerun over the left field fence. He singled in the 1st inning and scored on a double by Matt Holt who finished with two hits. His single in the 3rd inning scored pinch runner Zach Martin for a 2-0 lead. After Dion Jordan led off the 4th with a single, Johnson crushed a 2-2 offering over the fence to extend the lead to 5-0. Johnson finished his afternoon with a single in the sixth inning scoring Jordan who reached base via a double for his second hit.

Brendan Ratkovich had a run scoring double in the 4th inning Mayer's 2-run blast gave the Warriors a 7-0 lead in the 5th inning.

Western Branch starter Corey Klak, who is also headed to Old Dominion took the loss. Senior Brett Cassidy had a double and scored a run while Tucker Shaver drove in a run with an infield ground out.
