Narrows 42pm 21 4th qrt

Dont have a dog in the fight , just want to know witch dog was biting who ? I heard the Blues got hosed ! Somebody knows what happened .

i haven't heard details about this but it's very sad for the VHSL
Teams no longer have the displine they had 25 -35 years ago.
I was an official for several years and these kinds of games are the reason I left the profession

You don't get hosed while being beat by 28 points. The lack of discipline is the one thing holding back PM football from what I've seen the last two years. These kids don't play smart and tough like the Williams teams of yore. They play like they aren't held accountable and it shows in the crunch time games when they're getting handled. That's all I'll say on this or any subject related to this game. This is a chapter that would be best served to be learned from and moved on from. Also, best wishes for Moore and hope all is well for him on the injury front and for a full recovery.

Although on another note I was told Narrows bench cleared during the fight. If that's true, doesn't rule in the books say that's a mandatory two game suspension for any player that comes off the bench and on to the field?

Players or team personnel who violate the rules by leaving the bench during a fight or when a fight may occur MUST be ejected and the ejection(s) reported to your assigner. It is not always possible to get the numbers of all players who leave the bench/team area, but you must report the numbers that you DO get.

The first time a player or coach is ejected from a contest for unsportsmanlike conduct, he/she shall be ineligible for the team's next contest. A second ejection in the same sport in the same season carries a minimum two-game suspension penalty. A player or coach who engages in fighting, biting or aggressive physical contact shall be ineligible for the team's next two contests. The second incident in which a player or coach engages in fighting, biting or aggressive physical contact in the same sport in the same season carries a minimum four-game suspension penalty. (Note: If the disqualification occurs in the final contest(s) of the season, the penalty shall carry over to the next sports season for students who are seniors and to the next school year for underclassmen and coaches.)

There is certainly tape of it out there. I'm not going to even start y what should or should not happen now. I just think it was unfortunate on both sides.

Please don't misinterpret my post. I was simply answering a question from another poster.

I want Narrows to come to town at full strength. By all accounts, the officials lost control of the game very early and allowed the situation to escalation resulting in an unfortunate incident. At this point, it should be used as a teachable moment for everyone involved, fans included. There is no place for that garbage in high school athletics.

This only goes to reinforce my thoughts on how poor the officiating has been this year in the games I have witnessed. The officials have no excuse in this one

From what I have seen, the Roanoke Officials Association is pretty solid, which is nothing new. The Appalachian Officials Association has struggled for several years now. They AOA struggles to fill positions resulting in many "holes" filled with guys who do not belong or are simply inexperienced. There is some talk at Galax about switching over to the ROA when the time comes. But I haven't heard that from anyone in administration.

All I have to say about the officiating Friday night in Galax is, it appeared to be much more personal between the referee (white hat) and coach Dixon than anything I have ever experienced. At one point, the referee gestured toward Dixon in a fashion that could have resulted in a player ejection.

I just don’t understand how the cream of the crop wasn’t in Galax Friday night, simply because there was only like 6 games going in the whole AOA area. We’ve been fortunate at Chilhowie to have had really good officiating this season no matter where we’ve been, with one exception, and it was a low profile game, so I assumed that was why. It still wasn’t terrible. But like I’ve said in other posts, I admire these men who get out in these environments and officiate, they have to have a real love of the game, we all know they don’t do it for the money.

Was told that Vhsl met today to watch a film and make a decision. They decided against enforcing the bench rule due on Narrows due to not having enough to play and would be to much of A financial impact by losing a game. A couple of things here 1. I am sure Dixon wants Narrows to be at full strength when they play, just like I heard he was not happy when Grayson had to play at GW the Monday before the GC /Galax game I as well would hate to see anyone loss a playoff game especially the Seniors at Narrows.

Although the rules are the rules and VHSL should follow those rules. They certainly didn't care to follow them in the mid 90s when they took a District championship and 4 wins from Grayson because we had A 9th grader later deemed ineligible because of grades. The kid moved up from JV after the end of their season, and did not see the field at all during varsity games. Our guidance office found the error before the end of the season and and we turned it in on our own accord and they threw the book at us. For them not to follow the rules here because of the financial impact to the VHSL is shameless.

I'm sure Dixon wants Narrows at full strength. So do the rest of us!

My brother was a senior on that '97 Grayson team.

Sorry, didn't mean to make it seem like that was directed at you. I was just commenting that there is A LOT of tape of this incident floating around. The young man from Narrows who was ejected is still going to unable to play? I know they were appealing that ejection, but I just can't see VHSL giving that up as well.

No worries!

I haven't heard anything about an appeal but I can't imagine VHSL will reverse course on such an ugly incident. Honestly, everyone involved is lucky only three players were ejected. After seeing the videos floating around, I am embarrassed for both communities over the behavior of "adults" in the stands.

I use the term "adult" loosely!

A similar incident happened a couple of weeks ago in Charlotte. Administration cancelled/forfeited the remainder of the season, including any and all playoff games.

Another incident in Greenville, NC last week resulted in students being charged by local police and banned from any future extra-curricular activity, including attendance, county wide.

If I am not mistaken both teams was headed to the playoffs and both forfeited the remainder of their seasons.

My brother is a police officer in East Charlotte. He responded to the situation at East Meck. They were 1-8 at the time and finished 1-9 after the forfeit of the game in question. They wouldn't have made the playoffs regardless. Rocky River, the other school involved, had the remained of the season cancelled by administration. It was their second major incident in 8 months.

Rocky River and Butler got into an ugly stand-clearing brawl during a basketball game in February.

If you are referring to the incident in Greenville, I don't know much about it other than what's been reported by the media.

I could be wrong, I just briefly read about it.

I just watched the video from Facebook, while it is hard to see what happened on the field, the actions on the video after are embarrassing. I know you cant lump everyone in together, but a lot of fans should be ashamed of themselves. The cheerleaders were the ones acting like ADULTS clapping when the injured coach got up. I would be embarrassed if I were one of the fans involved

What's more concerning to me, someone obviously felt some sense of pride over what had happened. They posted the video on Facebook for the world to see!

Pray tell where is this damning video.
I found one on Facebook posted by a PM parents. A Narrows Parent had shared it though. Comments like that aren't all that rare...and there are a few people on the sidelines and stands doing their best to show poise and sportsmanship. Let's remember that there were plenty of good folks at that game as well. They were just a bit quieter.

I went to Twitter and searched Parry McCluer and Narrows and someone Facebook live feed came up.

Of course there were ones who conducted themselves correctly, but there are a lot of different people you can hear on the video, and in the comments on that video. And I said dont lump all the fan base together, but the ones who acted that way should be ashamed. Hopefully it was just the moment that got the best of them, and hopefully the player doesn't have that attitude all the time, but certainly shocking

Sucks. But it is what it is and cant no one change it at this point. I think both teams and fan bases learn from it and move on.

I wish Narrows and their fan base safe travels and the best of luck this weekend vs. Galax.
