If the best Virginia high schools are going to finish in the top 25 or higher these schools are going to have to win these games and it won't be easy but it can be done.

Highland Springs
Miramar Florida
Potomac Maryland

Freedom (Woodbridge)
Coolidge (DC)
Dematha
Saint Michael

South County
Quince Orchard (Maryland)

Maury
H D Wise (Maryland)

Stone Bridge
Martinsburg (West Virginia)
Quince Orchard (Maryland)
Good Council (Maryland)

Dinwiddie
Glenville (Ohio)

That's 11 games. If these schools can win 10 of these games we will have teams finish in the top 25 nationally.

I expect HSHS will beat both Miramar and Potomac
Freedom will beat Coolidge but I’m not too sure about those other 2 national
powers.
South County won’t beat QO imo
Maury will beat Wise
SB will beat M’burg and QO but not GC
Dinwiddie will not beat Glenville.

I’m concerned with HSHS in the humidity of Florida, but they are a very deep, experienced team able to match the speed of the Florida teams. Potomac will be no match!
Freedom has more talent than Coolige, but they face better talent with those other 2.
South County hasn’t been in a situation like this and I’m not sure they can handle a team with more speed & talent but less overall size(collectively)in the trenches.
Maury has way too much for the smaller enrollment Wise. I expect Maury to win easily
The SB odd offense is difficult for any first time facing it defending players. Unfortunately, their defense won’t find it easy stopping those 2 national powers.
Dinwiddie is good, but going into another “kingdom” is difficult for first time players. Players being starstruck is very possible and detrimental to a good teams success.

6 or 7 wins IMHO!

Wise is a bigger school than Maury, they would be Class 6 in Virginia. Should be a good game.

Great slate of out-of-state games this year but the only ones that really move the needle in terms of national rankings are Good Counsel and DeMatha.

Actually,Highland Springs is only 1 spot behind Dematha in the MaxPreps National rankings. I’m not sure what GC is ranked. Most people on Instagram say Wise is a small school on the Maryland preps page, but they could be wrong.

Wise has 1,750 students in grades 9-11. Maryland enrollments are here:

Problem for HS in national rankings is that it's going to be hard to move up without playing teams ranked ahead of them. For a public school outside of the top couple states it is hard to crack the top 25 without beating another team at that level. Maybe in USA Today where they have a bit more geographic spread. If the Springers bring home another trophy will anyone really care where they are ranked?

Difficult to say but Glenville was a top 100 program last year. Not a traditional power but could be in the midst of a good class/coach combo to get them on that horizon for a few years before they fall off.

The reality is for VA teams the state isn't deep enough in any district at any level to not drag teams down. A VA team *might* naturally play one top 100 program (typically whoever is the best C5 or C6 that year) but their schedule drops off a cliff when district play comes around. What you typically want for a top 25 national program is 2-3 top 100 matchups, 5-8 top 500 matchups and only a few dead weights 1000+. Freedom last year, for example, as the #1 ranked VA team played a single top 500 team in Stone Bridge and then the literal rest of their schedule was #1000+. HSHS did better with two top 500 teams and a couple right outside the top 500 but their 5th best win was Varina who was #1360 and it goes straight down from there. The dead weight for these top 25 programs are top 2000-3000 schools, not 5000-10000+ like you might see at the bottom of an elite VA team's resume.

Top 25 VA team needs a district who is across the board "up" that year and themselves scheduling quality OOD opponents (and mostly winning) and the team in question needs two top 100 OOD opponents and preferably a top 25 one and they have to just crush across the board. The reality is, if you look at OS vs St Johns Bosco, you'll see the reality of VA against the truly elite. SJB could have put a running clock on OS with their backups and beaten them by three scores with their third string and absolutely nothing that happened to OS would be any different than what would happen to any other team in the state. Until/if that gap is closed, VA teams just won't make enough noise to threaten a consensus top 25 poll.
