Just a 15 yard markoff. We had a team in 3rd and 20 we got called for PI became 3rd and 5, no play.Found out in Friday night in the game Amherst vs. Brookville that if it is pass interference, it is not an auto first down anymore. That is what the announcer said. Still 4th down as if the previous play never happened
I think it's been that way in HS for a while, even though in college and pros it's automatic.Found out in Friday night in the game Amherst vs. Brookville that if it is pass interference, it is not an auto first down anymore. The announcer said it was a new rule maybe he didn't know but people in the stands weren't aware of it eitherOnly roughing penalties result in automatic first downs. PI has been 15 yard/no automatic first for a while.
Another unknown rule is that in HS, there is no 5 yard contact zone. Defenders/receivers can make contact all the way down the field until the ball is in the air.
I remember a post by "White Hat" on the ask the officials thread where he outlined the only penalties that were automatic first downs,The announcer said it was a new rule maybe he didn't know but people in the stands weren't aware of it either
One of the reasons LT is so successful in secondary coverage and why they can bring the house on almost every play is because of their man on man coverage that keeps hands on WRs and completely disrupts passing routes. That's good Coaching. They take advantage of what's available.Only roughing penalties result in automatic first downs. PI has been 15 yard/no automatic first for a while.

The differences from NFHs,NCAA and NFL,NBA and MLB are pretty significant. What you see on Sunday afternoon and Friday nights is huge. I have heard a lot of the stuff, well Lebron did this last night and it was legal. Not so in NFHS rules. NHFS rule and case books can be bought for $4-5 on the NFHS web site. Most fans have never seen a rule book, but think they know all the rules.I remember a post by "White Hat" on the ask the officials thread where he outlined the only penalties that were automatic first downs,
roughing the passer
roughing the kicker
roughing the holder/snapper
and I feel like i'm forgetting one. I think there is 4. NFHS has a lot of weird rules, like where fouls are enforced from. There is a lot of discrepancy between NFHS, NCAA, and NFL.
