New Top 10 for SW/Central VA Volleyball

1) Cave Spring (14-2) - Lost a tight 5-set match to 4-time defending state champion Loudoun County last Saturday. Recently beat Grafton, Western Albemarle, and Blacksburg in 3. Has only lost 5 games all year despiute playing challenging non-district schedule.

2) Hidden Valley (14-2) - Beat PH and Blacksburg in 5 and dropped a few other games along the way. Only matches lost were at Va Beach tourney (one to CS). Plays @ CS and @ BB next week.

3) Blacksburg (10-6) - Lost in 5 to HV and GC, lost in 3 to CS. Beat Gate City once and Auburn twice.

4) Patrick Henry (10-3) - Has won 7 straight matches since 3 early season losses to HV (twice) and CS (once). PH is 3-0 in WVD so far and should not face any real challenge the rest of the way.

5) Auburn (11-3) - Only losses are to Blacksburg (twice) and James River (once). Beat Northside twice and James River once. Solid team should contend for A state title.

6) James River (12-1) - Split with Auburn. Experienced team should contend for A state title.

7) Gate City (8-4) - Split with Blacksburg and lost to some tough TN teams. Young team should contend for A state title.

8) Northside (12-3) - Undefeated in BRD with showdown vs. Lord Botetourt tonight.

9) Liberty Christian (15-7) - Scrappy and talented team that is playing a very tough schedule. Wins over EC Glass and Lord Botetourt.

10) Bath County (11-3) - Recently lost to James River in 5. Scrappy team could contend for A state title.

Other teams to watch - EC Glass (6-5), Franklin County (9-9), Galax (15-1), Lord Botetourt (6-6), & Rustburg (10-2).

1) Cave Spring (20-2) - Remains undefeated in tough River Ridge District. Has not lost a game in RRD play this year. Battling through some injuries now but should be ready for postseason.

2) Blacksburg (14-7) - Has wins over Hidden Valley, Gate City, & Auburn. Peaking at the right time for postseason.

3) Hidden Valley (17-4) - Recently lost to Cave Spring in 3 and Blacksburg in 4 but still a very dangerous team.

4) Patrick Henry (16-4) - Remains perfect in Western Valley District. Only losses are to Hidden Valley (twice), Cave Spring, and a very good Heritage-Leesburg team.

5) Auburn (17-3) - Only losses are to Blacksburg (twice) and James River (once). Solid team lead by Jordan Watson and Breanna Nichols should contend for A state title.

6) Gate City (12-8) - Split with Blacksburg. All other losses are to teams in TN. Young team should contend for A state title.

7) Bath County (14-3) - Beat James River in 4 last week. Scrappy team should contend for A state title.

8) James River (14-2) - Split with Auburn and Bath County. Experienced team should contend for A state title.

9) Rustburg (16-2) - Beat LCA in 4 last week. Tied for first in a weak Seminole District with EC Glass (who they split with this season).

10) Liberty Christian (22-8) - Scrappy/talented team that is playing a very tough schedule. Wins over EC Glass, Lord Botetourt, Northside, North Cross, and Roanoke Catholic.


Other teams to watch - EC Glass (13-6), Franklin County (12-10), Galax (21-1), Lord Botetourt (11-7), Northside(17-5), Richlands (17-1), & Roanoke Catholic (14-3)
